CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Nissan LEAF

Summary
With 428 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,214, 41.4% of 2023 Nissan LEAFs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Nissan LEAF 5 / 5 stars.
94.6% of 2023 LEAF models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Nissan LEAF stands out as a practical, reasonably priced electric hatchback with a reputation for comfort and a quiet cabin. By this point in its second generation, it had already gained a more powerful drivetrain than the original LEAF, along with a larger battery that helped extend range. It also wore sharper bodywork than the first-generation car, giving it a more modern look without abandoning its simple, everyday mission.
For 2023, the LEAF’s trim lineup was pared down to a base Leaf S and a Leaf SV Plus. The SV Plus brought a more powerful electric motor and a 62-kWh battery that provided 215 miles of range, while the model also retained useful tech such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which had become standard for 2020. Nissan Safety Shield 360 was standard as well, and the car still offered the brand’s e-Pedal one-pedal driving concept and vehicle-to-home capability through NissanConnect software. Those features make the 2023 LEAF appealing to buyers who want an easy-to-live-with EV with useful technology and strong value.
Its limitations are part of the same story. The LEAF’s older charging setup remained a drawback, and the air-cooled battery pack used in the first two generations was noted as likely to lose range as it ages. Even so, the 2023 Nissan LEAF remained a sensible choice for drivers who could charge at home and wanted an affordable electric car with a comfortable, quiet character.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

How much does the 2023 Nissan LEAF cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,256 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,097 |
| Year-Round High | $18,002 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,685 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +3.42% |
Prices are up 3.42% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 445 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2023 Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Nissan LEAF earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview describes it as a practical, reasonably priced electric hatchback with a comfortable ride and a quiet cabin, and it also highlights useful everyday tech like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, e-Pedal driving, and vehicle-to-home capability. If you want an easy-to-live-with EV that emphasizes value and convenience over flash, this model year fits that brief well. 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Nissan LEAF reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview also points to a straightforward, comfort-focused EV with standard safety equipment and familiar tech, which supports the case for dependable day-to-day use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is the battery and charging setup aging over time, so condition and charging habits matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan LEAF?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and confirm the car’s maintenance and charging history before you commit. Put extra inspection priority on battery condition, charging performance, and any signs of range loss or uneven wear. Because this is an EV with older charging architecture, you’ll want to focus on how the car has been used and stored, not just its cosmetic condition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan LEAF?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some patience and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 445 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.42% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 94.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,097, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Nissan LEAF's resale value?
The current average of $17,256 sits slightly above last year's $16,685.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay a bit more for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to resell later. The LEAF’s practical reputation, comfort, and useful tech help it stay relevant with used EV shoppers who want value and simplicity. If demand stays steady, that should help support a more stable resale profile than you might expect from a niche commuter EV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Nissan LEAF or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.42% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2023 LEAF is the right pick if you want a comfortable, quiet, value-oriented used EV with useful everyday tech and a strong owner satisfaction signal.
