Used 2023 Nissan Altima for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2023 Nissan Altima cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

With 7,014 listings available, you have a fairly broad pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Nissan Altima earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, comfortable daily-driving character, and quality audio system. The Altima also fits well if you want a straightforward family sedan with easy-to-use tech and broad appeal. On the trade-off side, the expert review points to fairly pedestrian performance and poor visibility, while the interior materials feel cheap. That makes it a better match if you value comfort, efficiency, and simple technology over excitement. With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, cost-effective car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because of its strong fuel economy and trouble-free everyday use. The expert review also describes the CVT as one of Nissan’s better efforts and notes that Nissan has been building these transmissions for decades, which supports the Altima’s dependability story. On the ownership side, the lack of free scheduled maintenance and the model’s value-focused positioning mean you should pay close attention to service history and overall condition when shopping used. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is buying a neglected example rather than a fundamentally weak design.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on visibility-related wear, interior condition, and how the car drives over rough pavement. If you’re comparing trims, make sure the equipment level matches what you expect for your daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim skips a modern infotainment setup, while higher trims add more visual polish and equipment. The SL is the most luxurious trim, and the SR VC-Turbo pairs SL equipment with a more powerful turbocharged engine.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, while the SR VC-Turbo uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a paddle-shifted CVT. The standard engine is adequate, and the turbo version is the livelier choice.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. ProPilot Assist adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist on higher trims, with some trim-level gaps.
• Infotainment: The base S gets a 5-inch display, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a hands-free text messaging assistant. SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, while the available 12.3-inch system adds wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Official EPA fuel economy ratings range from 30 mpg to 32 mpg in combined driving, and the SR VC-Turbo is rated at 29 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it’s the least appealing choice if you want modern tech because it only gets a 5-inch display and basic connectivity. It makes sense only if you’re chasing the lowest possible price.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen and the core convenience features that make the Altima feel current. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of price and equipment.
• SR: Choose this if you want a sportier feel and more equipment, including the available larger touchscreen and added driver engagement. It suits you if you want a little more personality without jumping to the top trims.
• SL: This is the most luxurious trim and the best fit if you want the most upscale cabin, the available surround-view camera system, and standard ProPilot Assist. It’s the right pick if comfort and convenience matter most.
• SR VC-Turbo: This is the choice for the strongest performance, pairing SL-level equipment with the turbocharged engine. Pick it if you want the most power and don’t mind paying more.

ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,014 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,546, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $20,413 sits slightly below last year's $20,517.

That small decline suggests the Altima has held value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that kind of price stability can help reduce the risk of a sudden value slide if you keep the car in good condition and maintain service records. It also means buyers in the used market are still seeing the Altima as a sensible, mainstream sedan rather than a bargain-bin option. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2023 Nissan Altima earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and five-star rollover resistance ratings, though it receives a four-star rating for front passenger frontal impact safety. It also earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS for the 2022 calendar year, but the updated IIHS side-impact test gives it a Poor rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every version and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. Rear automatic braking starts with SV, and automatic high-beam headlights are added on SR. ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo, adding adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The poor updated IIHS side-impact result is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds updated styling and a stronger available 12.3-inch infotainment setup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,277, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,413 average.
• It offers more trim and drivetrain flexibility.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $19,829, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $20,413 average.
• It leans on value, standard safety tech, and available all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, safety, and tech, the 2023 is the best all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better budget path, while the 2024 is worth a look if you want a slightly newer model at a lower average price.
