Summary
With 330 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,512, 52.4% of 2023 Nissan Altima listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Nissan Altima 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
Among midsize family sedans, the 2023 Nissan Altima stands out as one of the remaining choices in a shrinking segment. It is described as comfortable, easy to use, and backed by great safety ratings, which gives it broad appeal for buyers who want a straightforward family sedan rather than an SUV. Owners also praise its impressive fuel economy, with the car averaging around 40 mpg, making it a cost-effective option for daily driving.
That said, the 2023 Nissan Altima is not trying to win on excitement. Its performance is fairly pedestrian, and some drivers wish it were more responsive. Visibility is also a weak point, and the interior materials are said to feel cheap. Even so, for shoppers who value comfort, efficiency, and simple technology over flash, it remains a practical and appealing midsize sedan.

We have had our 2023 Nissan Altima SV for about 1 month and have driven just under 1,500 miles. We purchased this car because of the mpg ratings. We are averaging over 40 mpg so far which means I am enjoying this car. The driving is responsive, the pickup is quick, but not as smooth or powerful as the 2023 Honda Accord with its turbo boost. The audio is great, and even without the added technology package I have enjoyed the seamless Bluetooth pairing. Trunk space has been enough, though a bit less than the 2023 Honda Accord. Wireless Android Auto would have been a nice feature without the technology package, but the ability to plug in works, and I cannot complain with how well it works. This model came with a power drivers seat that low-end models of the Accord did not offer. I think the car is a great value when compared to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry if you are looking for updated technology, great gas mileage, and a lower price to get driving.

How much does the 2023 Nissan Altima cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,447 |
| Year-Round Low | $19,546 |
| Year-Round High | $21,433 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,533 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.42% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 6,950 listings available, you have a fairly broad pool to compare before you buy.
Is the 2023 Nissan Altima a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Nissan Altima earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10. Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, cost-effective daily driving, and responsive driving feel, while the review summary also points to a quality audio system. On the other hand, the expert notes call out fairly pedestrian performance and poor visibility, and the overview frames it as a comfortable, easy-to-use family sedan rather than an exciting one. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Nissan Altima reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience through its emphasis on impressive fuel economy and cost-effective daily use. On the expert side, the Altima’s CVT is described as a good one that Nissan has been building for decades, and the car’s straightforward, easy-to-use nature supports confidence in everyday ownership. Nissan also includes an Easy Fill Tire Alert, which adds a small convenience touch for routine upkeep. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s condition and maintenance history match its mileage and age.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Altima?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full inspection. Pay close attention to visibility-related wear, tire condition, brake feel, and any signs that the car has been used hard on rough roads. If you’re considering a higher-trim example, make sure the added tech and driver-assistance features work properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S trim has a 5-inch display and very limited tech, while SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen and the SL brings a more upscale feel with larger-screen tech and premium audio. The base trim is missing a lot of the equipment you’re likely to want, so stepping up from S is especially important.
- Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, while the SR VC-Turbo gets a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. AWD is available only with the standard engine on SV, SR, and SL trims.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. Rear automatic braking starts with SV, while ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo.
- Infotainment: The base S gets a 5-inch display, Bluetooth streaming, and a hands-free text messaging assistant. SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, while the available 12.3-inch system adds wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and wireless charging.
- Fuel efficiency: Official EPA combined ratings range from 30 mpg to 32 mpg, depending on wheel size and drivetrain. The SR VC-Turbo is rated at 29 mpg combined, and the SL AWD test vehicle averaged 27.4 mpg.
Which 2023 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?
The 2023 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, SR VC-Turbo.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the cheapest way into the Altima, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the basics, yet the 5-inch display and limited tech make it the least appealing choice for most shoppers.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen and unlocks more of the Altima’s useful equipment without pushing the price into luxury territory.
- SR: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a little more driver engagement, including paddle shifters and automatic high-beam headlights.
- SL: This is the most luxurious standard-engine Altima, with the most upscale cabin feel, available 12.3-inch infotainment, Bose audio, and standard ProPilot Assist.
- SR VC-Turbo: Pick this if you want the most power and the most upscale equipment together, but it is the priciest route and best suited to buyers who care more about performance and features than value.
ProPilot Assist is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Altima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,950 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 81.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,546, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $20,447 sits slightly below last year's $20,533.
That small decline suggests the Altima is holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For you as a future seller, that usually means less risk of a sudden resale hit if you keep the car in good condition and maintain it well. The model’s broad appeal as a comfortable, efficient sedan should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a straightforward daily driver.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Nissan Altima safe?
The 2023 Nissan Altima earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and five-star rollover resistance ratings, though it receives four-star ratings for front passenger frontal impact safety. It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system. Rear automatic braking starts with SV, and ProPilot Assist adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist; it is optional on SV and standard on SL and SR VC-Turbo. The Altima also gets a surround-view camera on SL and SR VC-Turbo, which helps offset its poor outward visibility.
The IIHS gives the Altima a Top Safety Pick+ rating for the 2022 calendar year, but the updated side-impact test returns a Poor result, which is the main safety caveat to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds updated styling and a stronger available infotainment setup.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $17,310, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,447 average.
- It offers more trim and powertrain variety.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $19,856, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $20,447 average.
- It keeps the sedan competitive with a strong standard safety tech package.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the right pick if you want the current-year balance of safety, comfort, and tech in a shrinking sedan segment. If price is your top priority, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 is worth considering if you want a slightly newer model at a lower average price.
