How much does the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?

Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 361 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

It is a two-seat, rear-drive sports car built around driving enjoyment rather than outright speed, and the open-air experience is a major part of its appeal. The trade-offs are clear: the cabin is snug, cargo space is limited, and it is not the most powerful or fastest choice in its class.

The model still makes a strong case if you want a focused roadster that feels special on everyday drives. Good and great deals account for 36.6% of listings, which suggests there is still some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 MX-5 Miata is built around a simple, lightweight formula, and that kind of straightforward engineering can be appealing when you want a car that is easy to understand and enjoy. The expert test-drive data also emphasizes how composed and stable it feels for such a small sports car, thanks in part to Kinematic Posture Control.

Its performance hardware is focused on balance and driver engagement rather than complexity, which can be a plus for ownership confidence. Still, because it is a low, lightweight roadster with limited practicality, long-term ownership risk is more about how you use it than about everyday mechanical burden.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified. Focus on overall condition, since this is a small sports car where wear, top condition, and interior use can matter a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport is the basic trim, the Club improves handling, and the Grand Touring adds more features, including leather seats and shiny wheels. The base trim is the most stripped-down, while the Grand Touring is the most feature-rich.
• Powertrain: The car uses a Skyactiv 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual or, on Grand Touring, an automatic with paddle shifters. It is tuned for balance and fun rather than straight-line speed.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite includes Smart City Brake Support with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning. Grand Touring adds traffic sign recognition, adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors.
• Infotainment: The Miata uses a 7-inch Mazda Connect screen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, text-messaging support, and E911 emergency notification. Club and Grand Touring add wireless Apple CarPlay, and Grand Touring adds native navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car returned 29 mpg in combined driving, and the expert drive recorded 30.2 mpg over 410.7 miles.

Which 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point and the most affordable way into the Miata formula. It keeps the car’s core lightweight, manual-transmission character intact, but it is the most basic choice if you want the fewest compromises.
• Club: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more enthusiast-focused hardware and better balances fun with equipment. If you want the Miata’s sharpest everyday driving feel without jumping to the top trim, this is the one to target.
• Grand Touring: This is the most feature-rich trim, adding leather seats, shiny wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and extra driver-assistance and convenience features. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort and tech in the lineup.

Grand Touring also gets the extra safety and convenience features that help it stand apart from the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and be ready to move when you find the right car.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 361 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 89.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,293, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $29,109 sits slightly above last year's $28,397.

That upward move suggests the market still values this model year’s mix of driving fun and simplicity. For a future seller, that is a helpful sign because a car with steady demand is usually easier to price confidently.

The Miata’s focused formula also helps it stand out from more ordinary used cars, which can support buyer interest over time. If you keep the car clean and well documented, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips the Miata with a basic version of its i-ActiveSense driving assistance systems, including Smart City Brake Support with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning. Grand Touring trim adds traffic sign recognition, adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors.

The safety caveat is straightforward: this is a very light, low sports car, and the expert test-drive data makes clear that physics is not on your side in a collision. If safety is your top priority, you should think carefully before choosing this car.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year keeps the Miata’s focused, lightweight roadster formula with strong driving enjoyment and a simple, back-to-basics character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,713, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,109 average.
• It adds Kinematic Posture Control and keeps the enthusiast-focused manual-transmission setup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $30,801, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,109 average.
• It brings new steering, a reworked limited-slip rear differential, and updated infotainment.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current-market pricing and the classic Miata experience, the 2023 is the sweet spot to target. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
