How much does the 2023 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 3.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 865 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 MINI Cooper a good car?

It can be a strong fit if you want a small car with personality, but you should weigh that appeal against its practical compromises. The user rating is 3.67/5, and the expert rating is 6.33/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

The 2023 MINI Cooper leans hard into style and individuality, and it is presented as a fun-looking, fun-to-drive small car that stands apart from the crowd. It also offers a powerful engine and an available manual transmission, which support its enthusiast-friendly character. The trade-offs are clear: it does not offer much cargo space, and it is described as poor value for money.

With 39.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 MINI Cooper reliable?

The 2023 MINI Cooper is built around a familiar formula of BMW-based engineering and a strong emphasis on driver engagement. Its performance hardware is described as smooth, strong, and free of harshness, and the manual transmission adds to the sense of mechanical involvement.

The expert notes also point to solid fit, finish, and quality in the cabin, which helps support confidence in day-to-day ownership. On the cost side, MINI’s pricing can climb quickly with options, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic durability than about paying too much for a car that can be expensive to keep in the spec you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 MINI Cooper?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, because this car’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and how complete its equipment is.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin and feature set vary meaningfully by trim, and base versions are more stripped down than higher-spec models. Cooper S models in Signature trim add a panoramic moonroof and heated leatherette seats, while Iconic trim brings more convenience and tech features.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three with 134 hp and 162 lb-ft, a Cooper S setup with 189 hp and 206 lb-ft, and a JCW 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The manual transmission is a major part of the car’s character.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes eight airbags, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring is not available, and many safety features common in similarly priced cars are missing.
• Infotainment: A standard 8.8-inch touchscreen comes with Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto is unavailable. Navigation, automatic parking, wireless phone charging, and a head-up display are reserved for the Iconic trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The two-door Hardtop with the manual is rated at 27 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. The Cooper S manual returns 23/33/27, while the JCW manual is rated at 22/31/25.

Which 2023 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2023 MINI Cooper is offered in 8 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works, Cooper Convertible, Cooper S Convertible, John Cooper Works Convertible, Cooper Hardtop 4 Door, and Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point if you want the MINI look and personality at the lowest cost, but it is also the most basic version. It makes the most sense if style matters more than speed or extra equipment.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a stronger engine and more satisfying performance without jumping all the way to JCW pricing. If you want the sweet spot between fun and cost, this is the trim to target.
• John Cooper Works: Choose this if you want the most powerful engine and the most enthusiast-focused version of the car. It is the right pick if performance matters more than value.
• Cooper Convertible: Pick this if open-air driving is part of the appeal and you want MINI style in a drop-top body.
• Cooper S Convertible: This is the better convertible choice if you want the stronger engine along with the top-down experience.
• John Cooper Works Convertible: Choose this if you want the convertible body style and the most powerful setup together.
• Cooper Hardtop 4 Door: This is the more practical body style if you want easier rear-seat access, but it is still a MINI first and foremost.
• Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door: This is the best fit if you want the extra usability of four doors and the stronger S powertrain.

The safety package includes eight airbags, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning, but blind-spot monitoring is not available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 MINI Cooper?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 865 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,279, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $25,673 sits slightly below last year's $26,699.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the car is equipped, since the MINI’s appeal is tied closely to personality and options. If you buy smart and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a better chance of protecting value than if you overpay for a heavily optioned example.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes eight airbags, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring is not available, and the car does not offer semi-automated driving assist. Adaptive cruise control is available on certain versions with the automatic transmission.

Should I buy a 2023 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.85% compared with last year.
• The 2023 adds a limited-run Resolute Edition, new paint colors, a powerful engine, and an available manual transmission.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,211, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,673 average.
• It offers broad personalization and BMW-based engineering.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the newer model-year mix of style, performance, and market availability. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better value path, especially if you find one in strong condition with the options you want.
