CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Lexus ES

Summary
With 905 currently listed for sale and an average price of $39,164.00, 35.4% of 2023 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Lexus ES 5 / 5 stars.
86.6% of 2023 Lexus ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Lexus ES stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, refinement, and value over flash. It is based on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and the redesign brought increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. Lexus also moved the seating position lower and further back, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom. The styling leans more expressive than before, with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline, but the ES still stays true to its role as a quiet, pampering sedan.
For 2023, Lexus introduced the F Sport Design, which dropped the adaptive dampers and sportier suspension tune. That makes the 2023 ES less about athleticism and more about the relaxed driving character that has long defined the model. The standard equipment list remains a strong selling point, with synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a suite of safety features that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available upgrades such as a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, and a power rear sunshade add appeal for shoppers who want a more upscale experience.
The main tradeoff is that the ES is not especially exciting to drive or look at, and that is part of its identity. It is aimed at buyers who want a reliable, comfortable, and well-equipped luxury sedan rather than a performance car. For shoppers who value a smooth ride, generous rear-seat space, and a calm cabin, the 2023 Lexus ES makes a compelling case.

Downsized from BMW 540i for more comforts but still decent pop/handling. ALL main cabin features of BMW transferred to Lexus ES though some learning on new systems will be required. Great the control pad on the console has been replaced in 2023. Saved roughly $20K upfront with Lexus plus more ongoing with regular, not premium, fuel. ES hybrid would have saved even more ongoing but I was not ready to take that drastic of a performance drop yet.

The overview describes it as a midsize luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, refinement, and value over flash. It also emphasizes a quiet cabin, generous rear-seat space, and a relaxed driving character, so it fits you best if you want a calm daily driver rather than something sporty or attention-grabbing.
With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview frames the 2023 Lexus ES as a reliable, comfortable, and well-equipped luxury sedan with a quiet cabin and a smooth ride. It also highlights a strong standard equipment list and a comfort-first identity, which are the kinds of traits many used buyers look for when they want a low-stress ownership experience.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about excitement and more about making sure the car has been maintained well and kept in good condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Lexus ES?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus your inspection on signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or poor repairs. Because this model is positioned around comfort and refinement, pay close attention to cabin condition, seat wear, and how well the car presents overall.
A careful test drive should confirm that the ride feels smooth and quiet, since that is central to the ES experience.

- Inventory: There are 958 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.60% year-over-year.

What is the 2023 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $39,098 sits slightly above last year's $38,108.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, especially when the car is presented well and priced competitively. For you as a future seller, that kind of price stability can help support stronger resale prospects if you keep mileage, condition, and history in good shape.
The fact that prices are still above last year’s level also suggests demand has remained steady rather than fading.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.60% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $35,615, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $39,098 average.
- It offers multiple powertrain choices for buyers who want more flexibility.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market case, the 2023 is the better primary choice because it combines solid deal availability, strong accident-free inventory, and positive pricing momentum. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2022 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition and the lower price matters more than the newer-year premium.
