What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Niro?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping outside the cleanest listings. Focus on overall condition, because the Niro’s appeal depends heavily on how well its efficiency, comfort, and tech features have been preserved. If you’re comparing trims, pay close attention to which equipment is standard versus reserved for higher versions.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX uses the 8-inch infotainment screen, while higher trims move to the 10.25-inch system and add navigation, a premium sound system, and satellite radio. The EX and SX also bring a more upscale cabin with vegan leather, and the Touring packages add another layer of equipment.
• Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 32kW electric motor, front-wheel drive, and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is tuned for efficiency, with a 53 mpg combined rating on non-Touring trims and a 588-mile driving range.
• Safety package: Kia makes a broad suite of driver aids standard, including blind-spot monitoring with collision avoidance, forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection and junction turning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, driver attention warning with lead-vehicle departure alert, high beam assist, and intelligent speed limit assist. Smart cruise control with stop and go, highway driving assist, and front and rear parking distance warnings are available.
• Infotainment: The standard 8-inch touchscreen includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the 10.25-inch system adds navigation, a premium sound system, and satellite radio. Wireless smartphone charging is standard starting with EX, but higher trims revert to wired smartphone connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 53 mpg combined on trims without the Touring package, with city and highway figures of 53 and 54 mpg. EX Touring and SX Touring models are rated at 53 mpg city, 43 mpg highway, and 49 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Kia Niro trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Niro is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the Niro’s core efficiency and standard safety tech at the lowest entry point. You get the 8-inch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus the full standard driver-assistance suite.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 10.25-inch display, navigation, a premium sound system, satellite radio, heated front seats, rear air vents, wireless smartphone charging, customizable mood lighting, and a Smart Key with push-button start.
• SX: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused version, with ventilated front seats, memory seats, a heated steering wheel, and an external subwoofer on top of the EX equipment.

Safety equipment is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.15% compared with last year.

If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth a look, but you’ll be trading away some of the 2023’s redesign and feature updates.
