CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 4,166 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,265, 34.5% of 2023 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.
82.7% of 2023 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out because it offers a wide range of appeal in one compact sedan. According to the test-drive summary, it can serve as basic transportation, a 50-mpg hybrid loaded with features, or one of the best sports sedans you can buy on a budget. That breadth is a major part of its identity, and it helps explain why the Elantra can fit so many different kinds of buyers.
It also earns attention for being roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced. The test-drive data highlights multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money, which makes the car feel well-rounded rather than narrowly focused. Owners echo some of those strengths, especially fuel economy, safety features, and value, while also praising the stylish design and tech features.
There are tradeoffs, though. The test-drive data notes that the Elantra’s design may be polarizing, and some owners mention concerns about interior quality and noise, including cheap-feeling materials and rattling noises. Even so, the 2023 Hyundai Elantra remains distinctive because it combines efficiency, technology, and value with enough variety to appeal to shoppers looking for very different things in the same car.

This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

In practical terms, that means you should like the Elantra most if you want a compact sedan that can be basic transportation, an efficient commuter, or a more engaging budget sports sedan depending on trim.
Good and great deals account for 35.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to dependable ownership traits, especially strong fuel economy, safety features, and value. The expert review adds that the Elantra is cost-effective and backed by an industry-leading warranty, plus complimentary scheduled maintenance on new models.
That combination lowers the risk of long-term ownership surprises for used buyers, especially if you choose a well-maintained example with a clean history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping outside the cleanest listings. Focus on cabin condition, road noise, and any signs of wear that could point to harder use or skipped maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra SE is the value play, while the SEL and Limited add more upscale feel and equipment. The SEL Convenience package and N Line also gain the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation panel and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, so base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to feature gaps.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive. The review also notes that the Elantra Hybrid and the N Line or N bring different character, with the N Line and N aimed at drivers who want more engagement.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment displays are a major upgrade. The system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging, but CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB connection.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 33 mpg during evaluation, close to its official 34 mpg rating.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, Blue, N Line, N.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point and the value-focused choice if you want the lowest price and don’t need the extra tech or upscale touches found higher up the range.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without pushing you into the pricier luxury-leaning or performance-oriented versions.
- Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale feel in the standard lineup, with a more premium cabin presentation and the strongest mix of comfort and tech.
- Blue: This is the efficiency-first hybrid choice if your priority is maximizing fuel economy over performance.
- N Line: This is the better pick if you want a sportier personality, more standard tech, and a more engaging driving experience.
- N: This is the enthusiast choice if you want the most performance-focused version and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,158 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.90% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,690, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,251 sits slightly below last year's $19,624.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale performance will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.
Well-equipped trims and clean-history examples should hold up better than rougher cars, especially if they have the features shoppers actively want. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in all crash-test categories except frontal crash protection, where it received four-star ratings.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
The main caveat is that the frontal crash result is lower than the rest of the NHTSA results, so safety-minded shoppers should pay attention to trim-level equipment and driver-assistance coverage.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.90% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 broadens tech availability and keeps the lineup flexible across efficiency, comfort, and performance.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $17,166, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,251 average.
- It emphasizes value, efficiency, and standard safety equipment.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $19,835, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $19,251 average.
- It adds more style and standard equipment.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want the broadest mix of trims, tech, and value. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better budget path; if you want the newest styling and equipment, the 2024 is worth a look.
