Used 2023 GMC Canyon for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2023 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 7.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,000 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2023 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — the 2023 GMC Canyon earns a 4.6/5 user rating, and the expert rating is 7.3/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious interior, solid performance, easy driving character, and stylish design. That lines up with the Canyon’s upscale positioning as a midsize truck for buyers who want more bells and whistles, especially if you value a premium feel over a bare-bones work truck.

The trade-offs are clear: advanced safety features are not standard, and value is a weak point. Even so, the market still shows 32.2% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels solid, dependable, and easy to live with over time, with many buyers highlighting its luxurious interior and trouble-free everyday use. The expert evaluation also describes the Canyon as having a quiet cabin and a feeling of solidity rare in body-on-frame vehicles.

GMC backs it with a three-year, 36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying premium-truck money for a model that still needs careful feature-by-feature comparison.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a truck that may have seen towing, off-road use, or heavy commuting. Focus on condition, equipment, and whether the truck has the features you want, since the Canyon’s trim and package structure changes the ownership experience a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Elevation is the entry point and skips some of the features that help the Canyon feel more premium, while Denali adds the nicest interior with leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, chrome accents, and 20-inch wheels. AT4 adds an off-road-oriented setup, and AT4X goes further with a three-inch lift, 10.7 inches of ground clearance, and serious trail hardware.
• Powertrain: Every Canyon uses a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is limited to the Elevation, while 4WD is optional there and standard on Denali and AT4X.
• Safety package: The standard Canyon Pro Safety Package includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian braking and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, a following distance indicator, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning. Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, blind-zone steering assist, rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, surround-view camera, and a Safety Alert Seat are added through optional packages or standard on higher trims.
• Infotainment: You get an 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google Built-In. Elevation and AT4 use an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while Denali and AT4X get an 11-inch cluster; Denali and AT4X also add a 6.3-inch head-up display and wireless phone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The base RWD Elevation is rated at 20 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway). With 4WD, the Elevation, AT4, and Denali are rated at 19 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 21 mpg highway), while the AT4X is rated at 18 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 20 mpg highway).

Which 2023 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2023 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation, Denali, AT4, AT4X.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation: This is the value-oriented starting point, but it also skips some of the premium-feel features that define the Canyon. It makes the most sense if you want the Canyon’s core powertrain and tech without paying for the higher-end trims.
• Denali: This is the best-value choice if you want the most upscale cabin and the most complete standard equipment without going all the way to the off-road-focused models. It adds the nicest interior, standard 4WD, and more comfort and convenience features.
• AT4: Choose this if you want a more rugged setup and off-road capability without stepping into the most extreme version. It adds a two-speed transfer case and a more adventure-ready character.
• AT4X: This is the one to buy if you want the most serious off-road hardware, including front and rear electronic lockers, skid plates, 33-inch mud terrain tires, and Multimatic spool-valve dampers.

The safety package is standard, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features still require higher trims or option packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,000 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,147, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $38,147 sits slightly below last year's $41,039.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests the truck has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. For a future seller, that means resale performance will depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment rather than just model-year desirability.

Higher-end trims and well-kept examples should hold up better with shoppers who want the Canyon’s premium feel. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2023 GMC Canyon is not rated by IIHS or NHTSA in the available test data.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Canyon Pro Safety Package includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian braking and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, a following distance indicator, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning. Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, blind-zone steering assist, and rear park assist are added through an optional package on Elevation and AT4, while adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, and a surround-view camera require the Technology Package on those trims.

Higher trims get more of the safety equipment standard, including the Denali and AT4X. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a more upscale feel, stronger tech, and a more premium positioning than the previous generation.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,833, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,147 average.
• It offers a wider range of powertrains and trim levels.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $39,462, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $38,147 average.
• It adds a new AEV package with even more off-road hardware.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Canyon’s premium feel, strong tech, and upscale cabin, the 2023 is the primary pick. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want more off-road hardware, the 2024 is the stronger upgrade.
