How much does the 2023 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 5.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 8,231 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Ford Escape earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, interior comfort, modern features, spaciousness, smooth handling, and commendable fuel efficiency. The Escape’s upscale, tech-forward feel and polished design also fit shoppers who want a compact crossover that feels more refined than a basic commuter SUV.

The trade-offs are clear: the interior materials can feel cheap, and wind noise is a recurring complaint. It also sits on the higher end of the segment on price, so value-conscious buyers may want to weigh the feature set against the cost.

The Escape is a strong fit if you want a compact crossover with a sophisticated look, useful tech, and everyday practicality. It remains a competitive choice for shoppers who prioritize features and comfort over bargain pricing.

The market still shows 32.4% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable, and trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for its long-term practicality and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also highlights the Escape’s predictable brakes and well-weighted steering, both of which support confidence in daily driving.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Escape?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report, confirm maintenance records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing looks unusually cheap. Pay close attention to cabin condition, since the interior materials can show wear and feel less substantial than the Escape’s styling suggests.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can be equipped with a 13.2-inch screen; the Platinum and ST-Line Elite make that larger display standard. The upper trims also bring a more upscale look and feel, but the cabin still uses a lot of hard plastic.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, plus a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque in higher trims. The stronger engine is better for passing and merging, but it comes with higher running costs.
• Safety package: Every Escape comes with Co-Pilot360, which includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centering technology, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 is standard, and the Escape can be equipped with a 13.2-inch touchscreen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the layout is easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.5-liter FWD model returns 27 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined. The ST-Line Elite’s 2.0-liter setup measures 23 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined.

Which 2023 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Escape is offered in 5 trim levels: Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Active: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the core Escape experience without moving up the ladder.
• ST-Line: This trim is the value-minded step up if you want a little more style and equipment without jumping to the pricier powertrain or luxury-oriented trims.
• ST-Line Select: This is the key choice if you want the 2.0-liter engine, since it unlocks the stronger powertrain and better passing performance.
• Platinum: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale feel and the larger standard touchscreen, while still staying below the top trim.
• ST-Line Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 13.2-inch screen standard and the strongest feature set, but it also carries the highest price.

For safety, every trim gets Co-Pilot360, while Co-Pilot360 2.0 is the upgrade to look for if you want more advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 8,231 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,718, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $22,718 sits slightly below last year's $23,983.

That decline suggests the Escape has softened in the used market, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the same trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal.

Because the market has moved down, a well-kept Escape with desirable equipment may stand out more than a higher-mileage or poorly maintained example. Strong owner satisfaction can also help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape safe?

The 2023 Ford Escape earns five-star ratings in frontal- and side-crash tests, and four-star ratings in the rollover test from NHTSA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did not award it a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ designation, noting a Marginal result in its updated side-impact test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Escape comes standard with Co-Pilot360, which includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centering technology, and a surround-view camera.

The main safety caveat is the Marginal IIHS side-impact result, which is worth keeping in mind if crash protection is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a 2023 refresh with strong tech and available extra passing power.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $22,730, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $22,718 average.
• It carries over the refreshed design with no major changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the smarter target because it already reflects the refresh and currently costs slightly less. If you’re price-sensitive, compare both years closely and focus on the cleanest, best-equipped example rather than the newest badge.
