Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.4/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the truck’s power, fuel economy, comfort, and feature content, and many also describe it as a solid value for the money. In use-case terms, that makes it appealing if you want a full-size pickup that can handle work duties while still serving as a daily driver. The expert review also emphasizes that the Silverado is built to be a capable, versatile truck that can handle commuting, hauling, and tougher jobs without losing its core utility. The available turbodiesel’s efficiency and the truck’s broad capability range add to that sense of durability and long-term usefulness. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright dependability and more about choosing a well-kept example that hasn’t been worked hard or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the truck has towing, off-road, or fleet-use history, since those duties can accelerate wear. Focus on cabin condition, steering feel, suspension behavior, and how well the tech and driver-assistance features work in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom use the older interior layout with a smaller screen and more hard controls, while higher trims get a more modern, high-tech dash. The LTZ is called out as the best value for creature comforts, and the High Country adds luxury touches.
• Powertrain: You can find a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder, optional 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, and a Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder. The turbo-four is efficient, the V8s add stronger performance, and the diesel brings the best fuel economy.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. The LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: WT and Custom get a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most other trims upgrade to a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel inline-six with RWD returns 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The gasoline turbo-four returns 19 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most basic choice, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, rubberized flooring, a 7-inch touchscreen, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-frills work truck and can live without the newer cabin layout.
• Custom: This adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 20-inch alloy wheels, remote start, and a power-locking tailgate. It’s a better everyday pick than the WT if you want more convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the off-road-oriented step up from the Custom, adding standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers. It suits you if you want trail capability without jumping to the top of the range.
• LT: This is where the Silverado gets the more modern dash layout, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10-way power driver’s seat. It’s the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the newer cabin experience without going all the way to luxury pricing.
• RST: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches. It’s mainly for you if style matters more than feature depth.
• LT Trail Boss: This combines the LT’s more modern interior with the Trail Boss off-road hardware. It’s the better choice if you want both the upgraded cabin and the tougher trail setup.
• LTZ: This is the strongest comfort-focused value, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, extra USB ports, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. If you want the best mix of luxury and value, this is the trim to target.
• High Country: This is the luxury-level version, with features like a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats. Choose it if you want the most upscale Silverado experience.
• ZR2: This is the range-topping off-road model, and the 2023 Bison package adds heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles. It’s the one to buy if off-road capability is your priority.

The LTZ is the best-value trim for creature comforts, while the WT and Custom are the most stripped-down. Safety tech expands meaningfully on the LTZ, so that trim is worth a close look if you want more driver assistance features.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,685, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $37,685 sits slightly below last year's $41,838.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the Silverado still has broad appeal thanks to its power, cabin space, and utility. The challenge is that resale value will depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the truck has been maintained. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and the Teen Driver system. Moving up to the LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors. Available tech also includes adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a rear-camera mirror, and Super Cruise highway driving assist.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds power upgrades for the optional Duramax diesel and a new ZR2 Bison off-road trim.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $33,883, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $37,685 average.
• It brings a refreshed interior and the new ZR2 off-road performance model.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $40,843, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $37,685 average.
• It adds Super Cruise on the top trim and more bed tie-downs.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the smart default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newest available features and don’t mind paying more, look to the 2024.
