What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension, steering feel, cabin wear, and any signs of hard use. Pay close attention to how the truck was equipped, since trim level changes can significantly affect comfort, tech, and safety content.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom use the older interior layout with a smaller screen and more hard controls, while every other trim gets a more modern, high-tech dash design centered around a large touchscreen. The WT is the most basic, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, rubberized flooring, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Custom adds cloth upholstery, wireless phone integration, remote start, and more USB ports.
• Powertrain: The base turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, and the lineup also includes optional V8s plus a Duramax turbodiesel. Rear-wheel drive is standard, 4WD is optional, and the base four-cylinder uses an eight-speed automatic while the other engines use a 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and Teen Driver. LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The base setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while most trims move to a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The Custom adds a Wi-Fi hot spot, and the LTZ adds wireless device charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline turbo-four returns 19 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, while the turbodiesel inline-six returns 24 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The 5.3-liter V8 returns 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, and the ZR2 with the 6.2-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 17 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most basic choice, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-frills work truck with vinyl upholstery, a bench front seat, rubberized flooring, and the simpler 7-inch touchscreen. It is the most stripped-down trim, so it suits buyers who care more about utility than comfort.
• Custom: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, a power-locking tailgate, and more USB ports without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want a more livable daily driver without going luxury, this is the trim to focus on.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the better pick if you want the Custom’s value with added off-road hardware, including standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers. It suits you if you want trail capability without moving all the way to the top of the range.
• LT: This is where the Silverado starts to feel much more modern, with the high-tech infotainment system, a fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. It is a strong step up if cabin tech matters to you.
• RST: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches, so it is mainly for buyers who want a sportier look rather than a major equipment jump.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the more rugged version of the LT, combining the newer cabin layout with the off-road hardware of the Trail Boss setup. It makes sense if you want both better tech and trail-ready equipment.
• LTZ: This is probably the best-value trim for creature comforts, because it adds leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and extra USB ports. If you want the sweet spot between luxury and value, this is the one to target.
• High Country: This is the luxury-oriented choice, with features like a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats. It is the right fit if you want the most upscale Silverado experience.
• ZR2: This is the most specialized off-road trim, and for 2023 it can be paired with the new Bison package. That package adds heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles.

The LTZ is the best-value trim for most buyers, while the ZR2 is the one to choose if off-road capability is your priority. The LTZ also benefits from the added safety equipment available on higher trims, including blind-spot monitoring and a surround-view camera system.
