How much does the 2023 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have softened 3.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 374 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW M4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

The data points to a performance-first coupe and convertible that still delivers strong tech and real enthusiast appeal. You get a manual transmission option, multiple body styles, and motorsport credibility, while the 2023 model year adds the limited-edition M4 CSL for buyers who want something more extreme.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may not suit everyone, fuel economy is poor, and the CSL is limited in availability. Even so, the car’s handling focus and driver involvement make it a strong fit if you want a serious sports car rather than a comfort-first luxury coupe.

With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW M4 is presented as a focused performance car with a strong emphasis on driver involvement, and the expert evaluation backs up that character with a solid 7.7/10 overall score. Its twin-turbo inline-six is described as a more efficient alternative to BMW’s older V8 M3 formula, and the car’s four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty adds some ownership reassurance.

BMW also includes four years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage, which helps with early ownership peace of mind. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-performance car like this can be expensive to keep in top shape if it has been driven hard or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance coupe can hide hard use even when it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and whether the car has been maintained on schedule. Pay close attention to condition if you’re considering a CSL or any higher-output version, since those cars are more specialized and may have seen more aggressive driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The M4’s styling is intentionally aggressive, with flared fenders, scoops, vents, and an oversized grille, while the interior adds a beefier M steering wheel and Merino leather seats with increased side bolstering. The CSL goes further with a ducktail spoiler, yellow headlight elements, fixed-back carbon-fiber front seats, and a more hardcore feel.
• Powertrain: The standard M4 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 473 horsepower and a six-speed manual, while the M4 Competition raises output to 503 hp and uses an eight-speed automatic. The CSL keeps the turbo six but increases output to 543 hp and focuses on weight reduction.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a head-up display, and BMW iDrive 7.0. The system also includes a rotary controller, shortcut buttons, and voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD M4 coupe and M4 Competition coupe are rated at 19 mpg combined, with 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The AWD M4 Competition convertible and RWD M4 CSL are rated at 18 mpg combined, with the same city and highway figures.

Which 2023 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M4 is offered in 4 trim levels: M4 coupe, M4 Competition coupe, M4 Competition convertible, M4 CSL.

Here's the short version:

• M4 coupe: This is the one to start with if you want the core M4 experience and the only version with a manual transmission. It gives you the standard 473-hp setup, rear-wheel drive, and the most direct enthusiast feel.
• M4 Competition coupe: This is the best-value choice if you want more power and quicker acceleration without jumping to the limited-edition CSL. It adds the 503-hp tune and an automatic transmission, making it the strongest all-around pick for most shoppers.
• M4 Competition convertible: Choose this if open-air driving matters more than maximum sharpness. It keeps the Competition powertrain and adds the convertible body style.
• M4 CSL: This is the special-occasion choice if you want the most extreme version. It is lighter, more powerful, and fitted with carbon-ceramic brakes, fixed-back carbon-fiber seats, and other track-focused upgrades, but it sacrifices everyday usability.

For safety, note that adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 374 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $71,512, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $72,169 sits slightly below last year's $74,958.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you may not see rapid appreciation, but a well-kept example should still hold appeal because it sits in a desirable enthusiast segment.

The strongest resale candidates will likely be cars with clean history, desirable equipment, and strong condition. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 safe?

The 2023 BMW M4 does not have published IIHS or NHTSA crash test ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW makes you work a bit harder for safety equipment than many mainstream brands, but the M4 does include standard lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are bundled into the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models, so you should check whether a used example has that package if those features matter to you.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model year adds the limited-edition M4 CSL, giving you a more extreme performance option.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $69,080, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $72,169 average.
• It delivers a highly engaging driver’s-car character with strong power, handling, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with the CSL addition and a slightly softer market price, the 2023 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you still want the M4’s core performance character, the 2022 is the smarter value play.
