Used 2023 BMW 8 Series for Sale near Alabama

How much does the 2023 BMW 8 Series cost?

Prices have softened 10.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 347 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW 8 Series a good car?

The 2023 BMW 8 Series earns an expert rating of 7.33/10 and is positioned as a flagship grand tourer that blends luxury and sportiness. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

That combination shows up in the car’s stylish design, multiple body styles, and strong handling. It also gets small updates for 2023, including exterior styling tweaks and an enlarged touchscreen, while the lineup still spans coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe body styles.

The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and the car’s value proposition depends on how much equipment you want to add. Even so, if you want a luxurious performance car with a broad body-style lineup, this one fits that brief well.

With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW 8 Series reliable?

The 2023 BMW 8 Series is presented as a polished, high-end grand tourer with a strong emphasis on refinement and performance. Its six-cylinder version is the most efficient choice, and the car’s standard warranty coverage includes four years or 50,000 miles of new-vehicle limited coverage, plus four years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.

The performance side is straightforward: the 840i uses a turbocharged inline-six, while higher trims move to V8 power, and the car is described as quick and comfortable even when it’s set up for everyday driving. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to the 840i as the best value in the lineup, which matters if you want to keep ownership costs more manageable.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that higher-output versions can be expensive to run, so choosing the right powertrain matters as much as choosing the right trim.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 8 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury grand tourer like this, where options and equipment can vary a lot from one car to the next. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car has the features you actually want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 840i is the starting point, and it comes with the core luxury and performance character of the lineup, but advanced safety features are not standard. Higher trims add more power and equipment, so you should compare feature content carefully before paying up.
• Powertrain: The 840i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 335 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. The M850i xDrive steps up to a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft, while the M8 Competition uses a tuned version of that V8 with 617 hp and 553 lb-ft. The 840i is the efficiency leader at 24 mpg combined, while the V8 models use more fuel.
• Safety package: The base car only gets forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The optional Driving Assistance Package adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, parking assist, park distance control, and a surround-view camera system. You then need the Driving Assistance Professional Package for adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic-jam assist, and active lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: All 8 Series models get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman Kardon audio system, a head-up display, and a WiFi hotspot. The system also uses BMW’s iDrive software and supports natural-language voice control.
• Fuel efficiency: The 840i is rated at 24 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway). The M850i xDrive is rated at 19 mpg combined, and the M8 Competition is rated at 17 mpg combined.

Which 2023 BMW 8 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 8 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 840i, 840i xDrive, M850i xDrive, and M8 Competition.

Here's the short version:

• 840i: This is the best-value choice if you want the 8 Series experience without jumping into V8 pricing. It still gives you the car’s stylish design, strong handling, and the most efficient powertrain in the lineup, making it the smartest pick for most shoppers.
• 840i xDrive: Choose this if you want the same six-cylinder setup but prefer all-wheel drive for added traction. It makes sense if you live in a place where weather or road conditions matter more than outright value.
• M850i xDrive: This is the step-up choice for buyers who want a much stronger V8 and a more serious performance feel. It suits you if you care more about power and prestige than keeping costs in check.
• M8 Competition: This is the top performance model, with the most power and the most aggressive character in the lineup. It’s the right pick if you want the fastest, most track-focused version and are willing to pay for it.

The base 840i’s safety equipment is limited, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, check whether the optional packages are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 8 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 347 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $58,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 8 Series's resale value?

The current average of $59,170 sits slightly below last year's $65,777.

That drop suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can help you get into the car at a better entry price. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect softer resale performance than a year ago.

If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect value, but the broader trend still points to depreciation pressure. That makes trim choice and purchase price especially important if you care about eventual resale.

Is the 2023 BMW 8 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 8 Series doesn’t have released crash test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The base car includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want more protection, the optional Driving Assistance Package adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, parking assist, park distance control, and a surround-view camera system.

For even more capability, you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic-jam assist, and active lane-keep assist. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you’ll want to confirm which packages are on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 8 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.04% compared with last year.
• The 2023 model year adds exterior styling tweaks and an enlarged touchscreen while keeping the lineup broad and appealing.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation with updated styling and a stronger shopping market, the 2023 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can use the softer pricing to focus on the best-equipped example rather than stretching for a newer or more expensive alternative.
