How much does the 2023 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,886 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing options.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The 2023 refresh gives you sportier styling, interior updates, and newer technology, while keeping the 3 Series’ driver-focused character intact. It stands out as an everyday luxury sedan with a quiet cabin and strong ride quality, so it fits well if you want comfort without giving up an engaging feel.

The trade-offs are worth noting: a manual transmission is not available, and some interior materials feel cheap. Even so, the lineup still covers a broad range of buyers, from the 330i to the more powerful M340i.

The market looks healthy, with 41.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 3 Series is presented as a refined, carryover-based update to a proven formula, with familiar powertrains and a focus on everyday usability. Its performance setup includes a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the 330i and 330e, plus a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six in the M340i, all paired with an eight-speed automatic. That kind of established mechanical layout can be reassuring if you want a used luxury sedan that isn’t chasing novelty for its own sake.

BMW also emphasizes convenience and ownership ease through its modern tech and available packages, including over-the-air updates and a voice assistant that simplifies system use. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is the usual one for a premium sedan: maintenance and repair costs can rise if the car was poorly maintained or heavily optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage doesn’t replace documentation on a specific car. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear, especially if the car has been optioned heavily. Pay close attention to whether the features you want are standard on that trim or bundled into packages.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i, 330e, and M340i differ meaningfully in styling, equipment, and performance, and the base car does not get every appearance or comfort upgrade.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the M340i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six; xDrive is available, and the 330e adds electric assist.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard, while the Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro.
• Infotainment: BMW iDrive 8 uses a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and voice control.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined; the 330e gets 28 combined mpg on gas and 75 MPGe combined in electric mode; the M340i returns 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 3 Series experience with strong performance, good efficiency, and the refreshed cabin and tech. It gives you the balanced mix of ride quality, quietness, and everyday usability that defines the model.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the ability to drive up to 22 miles on electric power. It suits you best if short trips and efficiency matter more than outright pace.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup, with the inline-six, 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and the quickest acceleration. It’s the right call if you want the most engaging version without stepping up to an M3.

The Driving Assistance Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package are optional, so check whether the car you’re considering includes the safety features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Yes — this looks like a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping carefully.

• Deal availability: 41.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,886 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,201, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $34,201 sits slightly below last year's $37,049.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, the current softness means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and the right packages should hold up better than neglected cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard with frontal collision warning and automatic city collision mitigation and braking, and the Active Protection System with automatic seat belt pretensioners, automatic window and moonroof closing, post-crash braking, and fatigue/focus alert.

You can add more driver assistance through the Driving Assistance Package, which brings active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro, including lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid. Some safety features remain bundled rather than standard, so check the exact equipment on any used example.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 41.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s mid-cycle refresh adds a sleeker look, a curved-display cockpit, and updated technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,502, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,201 average.
• It keeps the 3 Series’ engaging driving character and easy-to-use tech.

The bottom line: If you want the newer cabin, updated tech, and stronger market availability, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable with an older version of the same basic formula, the 2022 is the value play.
