What’s New for the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa introduced two new limited trims to the Giulia lineup for 2023: the Estrema and Lusso special editions.

Design

The Giulia features Alfa’s signature front-end design, with its unique inverted triangle grille and deeply sculpted bumper shape. Its sides are artfully carved, and the car is far curvier than others in its class. The Giulia stands out from the crowd with interesting colors, too, though its interior is darker and less visually interesting than most.

Powertrain

Both powertrain options for the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia offer energetic performance and an engaging driving experience. The base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes a healthy 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. The Quadrifoglio model gets a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine with 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive (RWD or AWD), though the more powerful engine pairs exclusively with RWD.

Interior

Though it’s strapped into a performance luxury car, the Giulia’s cabin isn’t as plush as the interiors in many competitors’ sedans. The front seats are supportive and nicely padded, offering great bolstering and a comfy shape. The back bench lacks much of that appeal, and it could use more shape. Rear headroom is also compromised due to the car’s sloping roofline, but that's the price for so much style. Even so, leather upholstery comes standard, bringing an upscale feel to even the entry-level car.

Technology

Alfa’s infotainment software doesn’t match the intuitiveness and ease of use that its Stellantis counterparts enjoy, but the system does a fine job in most situations. An 8.8-inch touchscreen comes standard, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Giulia brings other niceties like wireless phone charging without an extra charge. Higher trims add a Harman Kardon stereo system, but the base eight-speaker setup is plenty for most.

Safety

The 2023 Giulia hasn’t been subjected to the new side crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but it earned “Good” marks in all areas tested. Alfa includes several advanced driver aids as standard, including parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and more. The car can be upgraded with a driver-attention monitoring system, traffic-sign recognition, and a highway driving assistance system that offers lane centering.

Pricing

The 2023 Giulia starts at $45,875, including a $1,595 destination fee. Alfa Romeo offers several incentives and discounts, so the final price may be considerably less. The top Quadrifoglio trim starts at $81,355 after destination.
