Used 2022 Volkswagen Passat for Sale nearBirmingham, AL

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Passat cost?

Prices have softened 14.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 293 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Passat a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6/10 expert rating.

The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

The 2022 Passat fits you well if you want a roomy, comfort-focused midsize sedan with a huge interior, a big trunk, and a soft ride. Its straightforward usefulness is reinforced by fuel efficiency and an impressive stereo, but the trade-offs are clear: sluggish performance, an uncomfortable driving position, and outdated technology.

The model’s 33.8% good and great deal share suggests there are still attractive listings to find.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Passat reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Passat’s practical, comfort-first design and straightforward mechanical setup support its reputation as an easy everyday sedan to live with. Its efficiency and roomy cabin also make it appealing for buyers who want a simple commuter or family car rather than something flashy.

It includes two free scheduled maintenance visits to the dealership, which helps lower early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that older technology and a modest powertrain can make the car feel dated sooner than some rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Passat?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping for a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, because the Passat’s value proposition depends heavily on whether it has been maintained well and still feels clean, quiet, and comfortable.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control. R-Line adds automatic high-beam headlights, while Limited Edition models add adaptive headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and park assist.
• Powertrain: The Passat uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 174 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. It is adequate for commuting and highway cruising, but it can feel slow when you want quick passing power.
• Safety package: The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control. Some higher-trim features are reserved for R-Line and Limited Edition models.
• Infotainment: The Passat has a 6.3-inch touchscreen with standard App-Connect smartphone connectivity, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth for two paired devices. R-Line and Limited Edition models add HD Radio and navigation with improved voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The Passat is rated at 28 mpg in combined driving, and it returned 30.7 mpg in testing.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Passat trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Passat is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, R-Line, Limited Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value pick if you want the core Passat experience without paying for special appearance or convenience upgrades. You still get the standard safety suite, the roomy cabin, and the comfort-focused character that define the car.
• R-Line: This trim adds automatic high-beam headlights, HD Radio, navigation with improved voice recognition, and a standard Fender premium audio system. It makes the most sense if you want the best mix of equipment and everyday value.
• Limited Edition: This is the most distinctive version, with exclusive styling details, unique paint, adaptive headlights, front and rear parking sensors, park assist, navigation, and the Fender audio system. It suits you best if you want the most fully equipped Passat.

The standard safety package is strong on the SE, while R-Line and Limited Edition add extra convenience and lighting features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,298, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $16,298 sits slightly below last year's $19,024.

That decline suggests the Passat has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Passat safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Passat earns Good ratings from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with three-star ratings for frontal-impact collision protection for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims add automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and park assist.

The main caveat is that the NHTSA frontal-impact result is weaker than the rest of the safety picture, so you should weigh that carefully if crash protection is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It marks the Passat’s final U.S. model year, with a Limited Edition sendoff and a well-equipped standard safety suite.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $14,483, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $16,298 average.
• It offers a value-focused setup with a spacious cabin and great ride quality.

The bottom line: If you want the final-year Passat with the strongest mix of equipment, safety tech, and market availability, the 2022 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative, especially if you can find one in clean condition.
