How much does the 2022 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,984 listings available, which gives you a healthy pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.44/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its practicality, comfort, and performance, along with its spacious interior and advanced technology features. The review summary also points to strong handling in different weather conditions and broad everyday usefulness.

On the downside, the expert review notes a lack of value for money, while owners mention a basic interior and some disappointment with seating and pricing. In practical terms, this is a compact SUV that fits buyers who want a versatile family vehicle more than a bargain or a luxury feel.

With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.44/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to reliability, and it also highlights the RAV4 as dependable, trouble-free, and a vehicle people feel comfortable counting on over time. The expert review reinforces that with language about long-term dependability and durability.

That combination suggests the RAV4 is built for steady ownership rather than drama, which is exactly what many used buyers want. For you, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, because the market includes enough inventory that you can be selective.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The gasoline-only lineup includes LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road. Base trims get a 7-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker audio system, while XLE models and above upgrade to a 9-inch screen; the upper trims add more equipment, and the Adventure and TRD Off-Road versions are AWD-only.
• Powertrain: The gasoline model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard on most trims, AWD is available on all trim levels, and AWD models add fuel-saving rear-driveline disconnect.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking, while front and rear parking assist with automatic braking is available on upper grades.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect. XLE models and above get a 9-inch touchscreen, and upper trims can add JBL audio and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 27-28 mpg city/35 mpg highway/30 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 25-27 mpg city/32-34 mpg highway/28-30 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core RAV4 formula with standard safety tech, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the basic powertrain setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model, but you’ll feel the simpler equipment.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience without pushing you into the pricier upper end of the lineup. You also get the larger 9-inch touchscreen, which makes the cabin feel more modern.
• XLE Premium: This is the right step up if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it. It builds on the XLE’s equipment while moving the RAV4 closer to a more polished daily driver.
• Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want the most comfort and tech in the gas lineup. It’s the most natural choice for buyers who plan to keep the vehicle a long time and want the richest feature set.
• Adventure: This is the pick if you want the more rugged-looking AWD-only version and like the idea of a more outdoorsy personality. It suits buyers who value style and capability over the lowest price.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the most specialized gas trim, aimed at buyers who want the most off-road-oriented version in the lineup. It’s the one to choose if that character matters more to you than value.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and higher grades add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,984 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,235, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $27,490 sits slightly below last year's $28,113.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests the model has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. If you buy well and keep mileage reasonable, you’re starting from a more favorable price point than a year ago.

For a future seller, that means the RAV4’s value is likely to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones because the model still has strong shopper demand.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, and the RAV4 Prime is a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road sign assist. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard, along with eight airbags, LATCH anchors, tether anchors, and child-guard locks.

Higher grades add blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking, and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking is available on upper trims. The main caveat is that some of the more helpful driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines mature styling, a roomy cabin, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,947, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,490 average.
• It adds the RAV4 Prime to the lineup and broadens trim and powertrain choice.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,160, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,490 average.
• It updates the infotainment system, which helps address a common complaint.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and broad appeal, the 2022 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the fresher infotainment experience, the 2023 is worth the extra cost.
