How much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 2.22% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 320 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota GR86 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun-to-drive character, strong performance, and good handling, along with its stylish design and nice interior. The expert review also highlights easy-to-use technology and strong value for money.

The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission. That makes it a better fit if you care more about driving enjoyment than rear-seat practicality.

With 35% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive example.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a car that feels enjoyable, strong, and good to live with over time, with owners calling out its fun factor and solid handling.

The expert review reinforces that dependable feel by describing the GR86 as a simple, driver-focused sports car with a naturally aspirated engine and a straightforward layout. It also notes Toyota’s free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about how the car was driven and maintained, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports car like this may have been driven harder than average. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and overall condition. Pay extra attention to the cabin, tires, brakes, and any evidence that the car was modified or poorly maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car gets 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy HP tires, while Premium models add 18-inch wheels with grippier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, a ducktail rear spoiler, leather upholstery, and aluminum pedals. The base trim is the simpler, lighter-feeling choice, while Premium adds the more upscale and more performance-oriented touches.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The bigger engine brings quicker acceleration and a more flexible power band.
• Safety package: The car uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system, but the driver aids are only available with the automatic transmission. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The larger screen and digital cluster are a meaningful upgrade over the previous setup.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 21 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with the manual, or 24 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with the automatic.

Which 2022 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the lighter, simpler choice if you want the GR86’s core driving experience without extra frills. It still gives you the 2.4-liter engine, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the standard driver-focused layout, so it makes sense if you care most about value and purity.
• Premium: This is the better pick if you want the most complete version of the car. You get the 18-inch wheels, grippier tires, ducktail spoiler, leather upholstery, aluminum pedals, and added safety equipment, which makes it the best-value trim for most shoppers.

The safety package is only fully available with the automatic transmission, so manual buyers should factor that into their trim decision.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 35% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.22% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 76.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $27,489 sits slightly above last year's $26,891.

That upward move suggests the GR86 is holding demand well in the used market. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than many mainstream cars.

The price trend also shows that shoppers are still willing to pay for this model’s enthusiast appeal. A clean, well-kept example should remain easier to resell than one with questionable history or heavy wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 hasn’t published crash-test ratings yet.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include seven airbags, stability control, and traction control. The car also gets a set of driver aids, but they’re only available with the automatic transmission: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.

That means safety equipment is decent, but manual-transmission shoppers give up some of the advanced driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.22% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a redesigned body, a more powerful 2.4-liter engine, and more tech features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,782, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,489 average.
• It sharpens the enthusiast focus with more tactile performance and a more old-school feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a broader pool of listings, the 2022 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly more refined enthusiast experience, the 2023 is worth a look.
