CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 4,306 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,440, 29.4% of 2022 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
71.0% of 2022 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry stands out as a practical sedan that still attracts a large number of buyers. Toyota sold more than 310,000 Camrys in 2021, making it the third best-selling vehicle of the year that was not a pickup truck. That popularity makes sense for shoppers who want a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable car, and the 2022 Camry fits that description well.
It also has a few clear strengths that help it appeal beyond basic transportation. The available V6 engine gives it extra performance potential, while standard advanced safety features add peace of mind. The Camry is also presented as an excellent value for money, and owners echo that appeal by praising its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and overall value.
There are a couple of drawbacks to keep in mind. The TRD trim doesn't feature a folding rear seat, and the technology is described as outdated. Some owners also feel the four-cylinder engine lacks power, and a few wish for more advanced features like wireless Apple CarPlay.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and overall value. That lines up with the Camry’s practical, roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable positioning, especially if you want a sedan that covers everyday needs without feeling stripped down.
The main trade-offs are the four-cylinder engine’s weaker punch and the outdated-feeling technology. The Camry still makes sense if you want a well-rounded family sedan, and the market shows healthy interest with 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership as recurring themes, with many drivers saying they feel confident counting on the car over the long term. The expert evaluation also describes it as a comfortable, affordable, reliable, safe, and efficient family car, which reinforces that reputation.
Toyota also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear from prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
At 70.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and how the cabin and electronics have aged, since those clues can reveal how the car was treated.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Camry TRD stands out with an aerodynamic body kit, matte-black 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, red accent stripes and badges, and a more aggressive rear diffuser panel. It also uses a 9-inch touchscreen and a JBL premium sound system, while the base setup is more modest and the technology is described as outdated.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving. The TRD uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the Camry TRD but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The TRD comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect. A 9-inch touchscreen is optional, and it adds Remote Connect and Service Connect along with a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Camry TRD is rated at 25 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 24.8 mpg. The hybrid powertrain can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 13 trim levels: LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XSE, TRD, and the hybrid versions referenced in the model-year content.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost path into the Camry lineup and the core safety and comfort features that make the car appealing in the first place.
- SE: This is the better-value choice if you want a more engaging feel without jumping to the TRD’s higher-performance focus. It also serves as the foundation for the TRD, which helps explain why the TRD is priced more accessibly than the more expensive XSE V6.
- SE Nightshade Edition: Choose this if you want the SE’s basic formula with a darker appearance package and a more distinctive look.
- XLE: This is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale Camry experience and are willing to pay more for it.
- XSE: This is the most expensive non-TRD gas trim mentioned, and it suits you if you want the sportier, slightly upscale end of the lineup.
- TRD: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused Camry in the lineup. It adds the V6, track-tuned suspension hardware, stronger brakes, summer performance tires, and the most dramatic styling, but it also comes with compromises like the lack of a folding rear seat and a cabin that can feel a little cheap and underwhelming.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes standard on the TRD but is optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting for a dramatic bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,294 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,383, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2022 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance, which can work together as a hands-on semi-autonomous highway aid. Safety Connect is also standard and includes automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator.
One caveat is that the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems can feel overly assertive or occasionally misread the road, which may annoy you in everyday driving. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $23,434 sits slightly below last year's $24,008.
That kind of price movement suggests the Camry is holding value reasonably well, but not so tightly that you should expect a seller’s market. If you buy now and keep the car in good condition, the combination of broad demand and a strong reputation should help support future resale.
The current pricing also gives you a useful benchmark if you plan to sell later, because buyers still show strong interest in this model year. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 stands out for its available V6 performance, standard advanced safety features, and strong value proposition.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,773, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,434 average.
- It offers more configuration breadth, including multiple powertrains, trim levels, and available AWD.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping case, the 2022 is the better target because it combines solid pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and a well-rounded feature set. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Camry’s core strengths.
