CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 398 currently listed for sale near Atlanta, GA and an average price of $22,077, 31.4% of 2022 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
98.7% of 2022 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry stands out as a practical sedan that still attracts a large number of buyers. Toyota sold more than 310,000 Camrys in 2021, making it the third best-selling vehicle of the year that was not a pickup truck. That popularity makes sense for shoppers who want a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable car, and the 2022 Camry fits that description well.
It also has a few clear strengths that help it appeal beyond basic transportation. The available V6 engine gives it extra performance potential, while standard advanced safety features add peace of mind. The Camry is also presented as an excellent value for money, and owners echo that appeal by praising its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and overall value.
There are a couple of drawbacks to keep in mind. The TRD trim doesn't feature a folding rear seat, and the technology is described as outdated. Some owners also feel the four-cylinder engine lacks power, and a few wish for more advanced features like wireless Apple CarPlay.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

That lines up with the Camry’s practical mission in the overview: a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable sedan that still has broad appeal. The expert review reinforces that dependability by describing the car as solid, secure, and planted, with engineering that backs up its performance claims. Toyota also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car has been maintained well, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or suspension repairs. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s driver-assistance systems and infotainment features work as expected. If you’re shopping a TRD, pay extra attention to cabin practicality and whether the setup fits your needs.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Camry TRD stands out with an aerodynamic body kit, matte-black 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, red accent stripes and badges, and a more aggressive rear diffuser panel. It also gets standard heated side mirrors and dual-zone automatic climate control on most trims, though the TRD is the exception for the climate-control update. The TRD’s cabin can feel a little cheap and underwhelming, and it does not feature a folding rear seat.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The TRD uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The expert review says the V6 is terrific and the transmission is quick and smooth, while the four-cylinder is the setup some owners find lacking in power.
- Safety package: Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE. The lane-keeping features can be overly insistent at times, and the adaptive cruise control may reduce speed in curves more than you’d expect.
- Infotainment: The TRD comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect. A 9-inch touchscreen is available, along with a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system. The system does not include dynamic connected navigation and voice recognition technology in the TRD.
- Fuel efficiency: The TRD is rated at 25 mpg in combined driving, and the test car averaged 24.8 mpg. The review also notes that hybrid versions can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 13 trim levels: LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XSE, TRD, and the hybrid versions referenced in the model overview.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest price. It gives you the practical sedan formula without paying for the sportier or more specialized trims.
- SE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it sits near the middle of the lineup and is the trim Toyota uses as the basis for the TRD. It should suit you if you want a balanced mix of value, style, and everyday usability.
- SE Nightshade Edition: Choose this if you want a darker appearance package and a more distinctive look without moving all the way up the range.
- XLE: This is the more upscale comfort-oriented choice if you want a nicer-feeling Camry and are willing to spend more for it.
- XSE: This is the sporty, slightly upscale choice at the top of the gas lineup. It fits you if you want the most premium-feeling non-TRD Camry.
- TRD: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused Camry. It adds the V6, track-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, summer performance tires, and the most aggressive styling, but it also brings some compromises in cabin practicality and tech age.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,241 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.24% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,383, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $23,404 sits slightly below last year's $23,941.
That softer pricing suggests the Camry is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. For a future seller, that means your return will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. The current market also shows enough inventory to keep pricing competitive, so a clean, well-kept example should stand out more than a rough one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2022 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in every single evaluation the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration performs.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Toyota also includes Safety Connect, with automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and optional on LE and SE.
One caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centering systems can be overly sensitive or insistent, which may make the driving aids feel a little intrusive in daily use.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 stands out for its available V6 performance, standard advanced safety features, and strong value.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,792, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,404 average.
- It offers a broad range of choices, including multiple powertrains and trim levels.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of safety, satisfaction, and available performance, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the Camry’s core practicality.
