Overview

Years ago, the Porsche Boxster was the “lesser” car in the automaker’s lineup, but that has changed over its time on the market. The Boxster has always been fun to drive and has always handled well, but it is now a legitimate performance car with a price tag to match. The 2022 718 Boxster’s MSRP ranges from the low $60,000-range to just over $100,000.
Porsche updated the Boxster for 2022 with a few new colors and available accessories, as well as a new paint-to-match feature for the key fobs. The 2022 Boxster is offered in several trims: Base, T, S, GTS 4.0, and Spyder. Porsche also introduced a 25th Anniversary special edition for the 2021 model year, with production limited to 1,250 units, some of which may still be available.
Three engines are available, depending on the trim level. The Base trim gets a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that produces 300 horsepower, the S model steps up to a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four that produces 350 hp, and the 4.0 model gets a 4.0-liter flat-six that makes 394 hp.
The Boxster’s compact but good-looking interior can be decked out in leather and comes in a handful of neat colors. There’s not much utility here, as the car is seriously limited on interior space. Fold-out cupholders, small cubbies, and a laughable glove box form the bulk of the Boxster’s storage space, but that’s not really the point of the car, is it? There is, however, enough room in its frunk (front trunk) and trunk to carry gear for a weekend away.
Porsche offers a CD player, navigation, a WiFi hotspot, two USB inputs, and more. Apple CarPlay is standard, but Android Auto is not available. The Boxster hasn’t been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Only a few advanced driver aids are offered, which include blind-spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. The car does at least come with front and rear parking sensors as standard gear.
The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster can be ordered now and is expected to start arriving in fall 2021. The base model starts at $63,950, the Boxster T starts at $73,050, the Boxster S at $75,950, the GTS 4.0 starts at $90,850, the Boxster Spyder starts at $99,650, and the 25th Anniversary model starts at $102,450.

It’s a great car that will hopefully increase in value in the future. For now the prices are inflated a bit, but seem to be coming down. With only the RS version available this year, at even more cost, the base Spyder is the way to go for budget conscious enthusiasts.

718 is extremely nimble and packs some muscle. We are measuring it against our 911 Turbo and so far it is fairing pretty well.
