Who Makes Porsche Cars?

Porsche was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany. It built small sports cars like the 365 and competed in auto racing. It became a public company in 1972 and then was acquired by Volkswagen in the 2000s. But here’s the convoluted part: Porsche Automobil Holding SE owns a controlling stake in Volkswagen, which is controlled by the Porsche and Piech families. So in a way, the Porsche family steers the holding company that owns Volkswagen, which owns Porsche. Its vehicles are built in assembly plants in Stuttgart and Leipzig in Germany and Bratislava in Slovakia.

What Sort of Vehicles Does Porsche Make?

Porsche offers a lineup of sports cars, sedans, and SUVs with conventional gas, hybrid, and electric powertrains. While sports cars like the 911, Boxster, and Cayman are celebrated by enthusiasts, its sales hits of late have been its SUVs, starting with the Cayenne and followed up by the Macan. Porsche also makes a sedan, called the Panamera, and a four-door EV called the Taycan. It makes plug-in hybrid versions of the Cayenne and Macan, as well as an EV version of the Macan.
