CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 426 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,918.00, 36.9% of 2022 Polestar 2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
90.1% of 2022 Polestar 2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric-vehicle market, with Polestar aiming to compete against Tesla and Audi. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps define the car’s appeal: it is meant to feel like a serious premium EV rather than a niche experiment.
What makes the 2022 Polestar 2 distinctive is the combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale character that should attract buyers looking for a modern electric car with a luxury feel. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though, because visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and the car is described as poor value for money.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The car’s appeal is rooted in its premium EV positioning: it is meant to feel like a serious luxury electric car, with stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths make it a good fit if you want a modern, upscale EV rather than a bare-bones commuter.
The trade-offs are real, though. The expert notes poor visibility and limited cargo space, and the car is also described as poor value for money. That means you should weigh the polished cabin and tech against everyday practicality and pricing.
With 38.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Polestar 2 is positioned as a premium EV with strong brand backing, and the expert write-up emphasizes that Polestar is not a fly-by-night startup. That matters for confidence in the ownership experience, especially when you’re buying used and want a car that feels engineered rather than improvised.
The performance notes also point to a well-sorted electric drivetrain, with strong acceleration and stable handling in testing. On the ownership side, three years of complimentary service and maintenance is a meaningful perk if it still applies to the vehicle you’re considering.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic mechanical drama and more about making sure the car has been cared for properly, especially as an EV with software-dependent systems and battery-related wear considerations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
Even with a strong clean-history share, you should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on visibility-related wear, interior condition, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim and option content you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 lineup starts with a lower-priced Single Motor version and a Dual Motor version, and the cheaper setup may not include the same equipment feel as a better-optioned car. The expert notes that features once standard can now be optional, so check carefully for the packs and equipment you want.
- Powertrain: The Single Motor model uses front-wheel drive and makes 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, while the Dual Motor setup uses all-wheel drive and makes 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The single-motor version is the efficiency play, while the dual-motor car is the quicker, more performance-oriented choice.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based system with built-in voice control, Google Play Store apps, four USB-C outlets, and regular OTA updates. It is designed to work with non-Android phones as well.
- Range & charging: The Single Motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the Dual Motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack has 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
- Battery health: As with any used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, review charging habits, and confirm whether the car spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. Also verify how much of the battery warranty remains so you know what protection you still have.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Single Motor, Dual Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Single Motor: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the lower starting price and the longer estimated range. It gives you the core Polestar 2 experience with front-wheel drive and strong everyday efficiency, making it the better pick if you care more about range and price than outright speed.
- Dual Motor: This is the better choice if you want the strongest performance and the more premium-feeling powertrain. It brings all-wheel drive and much higher output, so it suits you best if you want the quickest version and are willing to pay more for it.
The safety package is incomplete on the standard car, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, look closely at whether a given example has the Pilot Pack.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 444 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.83% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,208.20, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $22,900 sits slightly below last year's $26,270.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you shop near the lower end of the range, you reduce the amount of value left to lose.
The car’s premium positioning and strong tech appeal should help it remain attractive to used-EV shoppers. At the same time, resale will still depend on condition, equipment, and how well the battery and software systems have aged.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
It has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS, so there are no official U.S. crash-test ratings to cite here.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. If you want more advanced protection, the Pilot Pack adds blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera.
The main caveat is that some of the most desirable driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should verify package content carefully on any used example.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a lower-priced Single Motor option and improved charging and range flexibility versus the earlier launch year.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and a more conventional premium EV feel.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the better pick if you want the broader trim range, stronger value opportunity, and the updated EV package. If you’re shopping strictly on price and want the earlier model-year character, the 2021 can still make sense, but the 2022 is the more compelling used buy for most shoppers.
