How much does the 2022 Nissan Frontier cost?

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.66/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the truck’s design, comfort, roomy cabin, and powerful engine. The overview also points to a comfortable cabin, impressive technology, and strong value, which makes this a good fit if you want a midsize pickup that feels modern without giving up truck capability.

The main trade-offs are heavy steering and poor fuel economy, and some owners also mention mixed feelings about reliability. Even so, the combination of comfort, capability, and value helps it stand out if you want a practical daily driver with real truck utility.

Good and great deals account for 36.3% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.66/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback highlights the Frontier as a truck many owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its comfort, design, and power. The summary also points to a solid upgrade experience, which supports the idea that many buyers see it as a dependable everyday truck.

The expert evaluation also describes the Frontier as a strong value with a capable, enhanced powertrain, which reinforces the sense that it is built to handle regular use well. Nissan’s cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize that the truck offers a competitive package for the money.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that reliability feedback is mixed, so a careful history check matters more than usual.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Frontier?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks steering feel, brake condition, and any signs of hard use, especially if the truck was used for towing or off-road driving. Focus on overall condition, because the Frontier’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lowest trim uses an 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can add a 9-inch screen and more upscale equipment. The off-road-focused PRO-4X brings charcoal leather seating and a more rugged setup, while the 2WD PRO-X keeps the styling cues but drops some trail hardware.
• Powertrain: The Frontier uses a 3.8-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are both available, and the truck includes a tow mode for heavier loads.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a driver attention monitor, intelligent forward collision warning, trailer sway control, rear-door alert, and an easy-fill tire alert. The Technology Package adds blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The Frontier offers an 8-inch touchscreen on S and SV trims and a 9-inch screen on PRO-4X. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they require a wired connection, and wireless projection is not supported.
• Fuel efficiency: Rear-wheel-drive models are rated at 18 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined, while four-wheel-drive models are rated at 17/22/19. The combined fuel economy rating is 19 mpg.

Which 2022 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, PRO-X, PRO-4X.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you want the Frontier’s core V6 power and don’t need extra tech or luxury features.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road models. It also gets the larger bed option on Crew Cab versions and keeps the truck’s practical focus intact.
• PRO-X: Choose this if you like the PRO-4X look but do not need four-wheel-drive trail hardware. It keeps the styling cues while dropping the locking differential and skid plates.
• PRO-4X: This is the trim to get if you want the Frontier’s real off-road capability. It adds hill-start assist, hill-descent control, an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, skid plates, and a surround-view monitor with off-road mode.

The Technology Package adds blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Frontier?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,333 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,431, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $26,431 sits slightly below last year's $28,426.

That decline suggests the Frontier is currently in a softer pricing phase, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. A lower current market average can put some pressure on future resale expectations unless demand stays steady.

Even so, the truck’s strong value story and broad appeal should help support interest from used buyers. If the Frontier continues to attract shoppers who want capability and comfort at a reasonable price, that should help stabilize resale demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.66/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier safe?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier hasn’t been crash-tested yet by either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 comes standard and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a driver attention monitor, intelligent forward collision warning, trailer sway control, rear-door alert, and an easy-fill tire alert. Eight airbags also come standard, and the Technology Package adds blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Because this is a redesign, you should pay close attention to how the truck’s safety tech is equipped on the specific trim you’re considering. The lack of published crash-test results means the standard driver-assistance suite matters even more when you’re comparing listings.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.66/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a long-awaited redesign with a more modern cabin, stronger tech, and real off-road capability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $31,769, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $26,431 average.
• It adds a few more standard features while keeping the same basic formula.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it delivers the redesign benefits at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer truck with a few extra standard features, the 2023 is the cleaner alternative.
