How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 10.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,104 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert score is 8.7/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The 2022 S-Class is positioned as a full-size four-door luxury sedan with a modern executive focus, and its flagship character comes through in the premium materials, stylish design, and high-end mechanical setup. It also balances comfort and capability well, with a ride quality that suits long-distance driving.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may not appeal to everyone, and the price is hard to ignore. Even so, the combination of comfort, technology, and performance makes it a compelling luxury sedan if you want a flagship experience.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The S-Class is built around a refined mild-hybrid powertrain, and the expert review emphasizes smooth, predictable handling, strong braking, and seamless electric assist. That points to a car engineered for calm, consistent daily use rather than drama.

The review also highlights the model’s premium construction and well-integrated technology, which supports the impression of a carefully developed flagship sedan. If you buy used, your biggest long-term risk is likely tied to the complexity and cost of maintaining a highly equipped luxury car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, suspension behavior, and any signs of expensive luxury-car wear. Pay close attention to how the cabin, driver-assistance systems, and power features operate, since this model is heavily equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S500 and S580 are the core trims, and the S500 is the lower-priced entry point. The S580 adds the V8 and is the better fit if you want more power, while the S500 is the more value-conscious choice.
• Powertrain: The S500 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid setup, while the S580 uses a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with EQ Boost. Both pair with a nine-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard and available driver-assistance features include active distance assist Distronic, active stop-and-go assist, active steering assist, active emergency stop assist, active lane-change assistant, active brake assist, active speed limit assist, active blind-spot assist, active lane-keeping assist, active parking assist with Parktronic, Pre-Safe Plus with Pre-Safe Sound, Pre-Safe Impulse Side, and car-to-x communication. Rear-passenger airbags and a rear-seat belt bag are available, so check whether the car you’re considering has those upgrades.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen with the MBUX system, plus a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Wireless smartphone integration and OTA capability are not stated here.
• Fuel efficiency: The S500 is rated at up to 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, while the S580 is rated at 16 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: S500 Luxury Line, S500 AMG Line, S580 Luxury Line, S580 AMG Line.

Here's the short version:

• S500 Luxury Line: This is the most affordable way into the S-Class, and it gives you the core flagship experience with the six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and the full luxury-sedan mission. It’s the best-value trim if you want the S-Class name and comfort without stretching to the V8.
• S500 AMG Line: Choose this if you want the S500’s balance of efficiency and performance with a sportier appearance and a more aggressive presentation. It suits you if you care about style and still want to stay below the V8 trims.
• S580 Luxury Line: This trim is for you if you want the stronger twin-turbo V8 and the most relaxed, effortless power delivery in the lineup. It’s the better pick if performance matters more than price.
• S580 AMG Line: This combines the V8 with a sportier look and is the right choice if you want the most assertive version of the standard S-Class formula.
• S580 Executive Line: This is the most upscale trim mentioned, and it’s the one to consider if you want the most premium presentation in the lineup.

The safety content points to a broad standard driver-assistance suite, with additional rear-seat safety equipment available on some versions, so verify the exact equipment on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,104 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $61,720, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $61,720 sits slightly below last year's $69,333.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure resale if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later.

For a future seller, the key is to buy a well-kept example with strong equipment and a clean history. Luxury sedans with broad appeal and strong demand tend to hold value better when they’re presented in excellent condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes-Benz equips the S-Class with a long list of standard and available driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering support, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, parking assistance, and collision-prep systems. It also includes car-to-x communication and available rear-seat safety upgrades.

The safety content emphasizes executive-level protection, especially for rear passengers, which fits the car’s luxury mission. If you’re shopping used, make sure the specific car you’re considering has the safety equipment you expect, since some features are available rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 blends the redesigned S-Class cabin with strong tech and a refined mild-hybrid powertrain.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $58,286, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $61,720 average.
• It launched the redesign and introduced the new flagship tech focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $76,170, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $61,720 average.
• It adds a plug-in hybrid option for more electrified driving.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and the latest redesigned S-Class experience, the 2022 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still giving you the redesigned flagship formula.
