How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS cost?

Prices have softened 15.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 852 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It sits at the top of Mercedes’ luxury SUV range and is positioned as the brand’s flagship three-row SUV, so you’re shopping for a full-size luxury statement rather than a simple family hauler. The test-drive data backs up that positioning with a stylish design, a powerful engine, and a spacious cabin.

The trade-offs are worth weighing: poor ride quality and poor ergonomic design are both called out, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLS is described as a solid luxury SUV with a strong luxury-first character, and the inline-six powertrain is presented as smooth and well suited to a premium vehicle. The mild-hybrid setup also helps the engine work more efficiently by reducing its workload and supporting accessories.

Mercedes’ four-year, 50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranties add some reassurance for used buyers. Still, long-term ownership risk comes down to whether you’re comfortable with a large, complex luxury SUV that may carry higher repair and maintenance exposure once warranty coverage ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large luxury SUV with available options that can vary widely from one example to the next. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the equipment on the listing matches what you expect from the trim and options shown.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 has a fairly basic interior by GLS standards, but it still feels properly luxurious with leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, and a digital instrument cluster paired with the infotainment screen. It is the only version available in this model year’s U.S. market, so there isn’t a higher standard trim to compare against here.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a nine-speed automatic and EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. It makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft available in short bursts.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, and more advanced driver-assistance features cost extra.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX system includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and natural-language voice recognition. A head-up display is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 20 mpg combined, 18 mpg city, and 24 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 1 trim level: GLS 450 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The GLS 450 4Matic: This is the only U.S. trim for 2022, so your decision is less about choosing among trims and more about choosing the right example. It gives you the core GLS strengths: a smooth inline-six, standard AWD, air suspension, a surround-view camera system, and a well-appointed cabin. It also carries the model’s main compromises, including the fact that some key safety and comfort features still cost extra.

Mercedes still leaves some advanced driver-assistance features as options, so check each listing carefully for the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 852 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $46,871, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $46,871 sits slightly below last year's $55,157.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment because the broader market has softened.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Mercedes also includes a system that emits “pink noise” to help protect ears during a collision.

You should note that adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, and several more advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard. That means you’ll want to verify the exact safety equipment on any used example before you buy.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mercedes withdrew most V8 models for this year, leaving the GLS 450 as the only U.S. version at the time of testing.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,213, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $46,871 average.
• It emphasizes comfort and upscale presentation with spacious seating and plenty of cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year GLS at a softer price point, the 2022 is the better primary target because it combines strong inventory, a lower average price than last year, and solid owner satisfaction. If you’re focused mainly on saving money, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you find one in strong condition with the equipment you want.
