What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a car with a hardtop, performance package, or higher mileage. Focus on overall condition, signs of top-down use, and whether the cabin and exterior show the kind of wear that can come from enthusiastic driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The car comes in convertible soft top and retractable fastback body styles, with Sport, Club, and Grand Touring trim. The base setup is the most affordable, while the RF Club adds a more purposeful look and the Brembo BBS Recaro package standard on that version.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and is tuned for a high-revving, lightweight sports-car feel. Mazda also keeps the manual transmission front and center, with the automatic limited to the top Grand Touring trim.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking at lower speeds, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a reversing camera. Grand Touring adds traffic sign recognition.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth with text message delivery and reply, E911 automatic emergency notification, HD Radio, and internet radio access. Club adds wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a nine-speaker Bose audio system with front head restraint speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review cites 29 mpg in combined driving, and it also notes 27.5 mpg during a half-day drive.

Which 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point if you want the Miata experience at the lowest price and are comfortable with the car’s minimalist approach. It gives you the core roadster formula without the extra equipment that pushes the car further upmarket.
• Club: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the equipment that most clearly deepens the Miata’s enthusiast appeal. The expert review highlights the Brembo BBS Recaro package on the RF Club, and the trim also brings wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and the Bose audio system.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including the integrated navigation system and SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link services. It is also the trim where Mazda places the automatic transmission.

Grand Touring is the only trim with traffic sign recognition, while the Club gets the strongest mix of enthusiast-focused upgrades.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices are up 3.18% year-over-year.

• It keeps the Miata’s engaging rear-wheel-drive sports-car character with a budget-friendly appeal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,636, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,299 average.
• It sharpens the Miata’s focused, lightweight roadster character for buyers who want the latest version.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, owner satisfaction, and updated driving dynamics, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If price matters most, the 2021 is the smarter bargain; if you want to spend more for the newer model-year experience, the 2023 is the next step up.
