overall

Summary
With 36 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,700, 33.3% of 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out by delivering intrinsic value, especially when compared with traditional mainstream alternatives. It also brings the kind of style and driving enjoyment that help explain why Mazda’s compact car remains so appealing, with strong safety ratings adding to its case. Owners also tend to praise its comfortable, luxurious interior and impressive handling, along with the available turbo engine’s strong performance.
This model year adds a few notable touches that help distinguish it further. A Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition debuts with Polymetal Gray paint, black 18-inch alloy wheels, black mirror caps, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system with aluminum speaker grilles. The Mazda3 Turbo models also gain a standard wiper de-icer system, and Platinum Quartz Metallic becomes available as a new paint color.
There are still tradeoffs to consider. The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is described as having poor fuel economy, a cramped back seat, and unintuitive technology, so it is best suited to buyers who value design, driving feel, and upscale touches more than maximum practicality.

This car is beautiful, so far no problems reliability-wise, to be expected from a tried-and-true NA 4 cyl paired to a traditional automatic transmission (no cvt unlike the current corolla and civic autos!). This car drives great for what it is. Speaking for the FWD model, handling is direct and predictable and has good feedback even with stock tires (215/45r18s on my trim). Even though this car isn’t as powerful as the turbo model, it’s fast enough to still be very enjoyable to drive. At 6’0, I surprisingly fit in the backseat of the hatch even with the front seat all the way back (not super comfortably though) and my head doesn’t touch the ceiling. Would recommend anybody interested to test drive this car.

I love this car because of its simple yet luxurious interior and it’s smooth drive. Also love the 6 speed. Perfect daily driver with room for modifications.

By far the best car in its class for performance, luxury, and technology. The turbo engine combined with already excellent handling takes the already popular Mazda 3 to an elevated level.

I love the comfort of the interior, the seats molds around your body. It has a lot of nice features that I was looking for, sunroof, keyless entry,,heater seats and a great Bose stereo that blows your mind. I wish it came with a bigger spoiler of a different color than the car. My biggest change would be to put a black package on them. They look silly with black wheels and chrome trim, I am adding aftermarket black trim everywhere. The only other thing Is, I wish it looked a little more sporty. I bought the turbo and it has plenty of kick but could have used a little bit of a different design than the regular model. For the 32k price range it was a good value in today’s market if it was a little sportier looking.

| Year-Round High | $21,409 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,166 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.32% |

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable and luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. They also like the available Bose audio system and the car’s overall feature set. On the downside, some owners wish the design were sportier and would prefer different exterior accents.
That lines up with the broader use case here: this is a car for you if you value style, driving enjoyment, and upscale touches more than maximum practicality. The trade-offs are poor fuel economy and a cramped back seat, so it fits best if you can live with a tighter, less efficient compact car.
With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe the car as comfortable, luxurious, and strong-performing, and they also point to features like the Bose stereo system as part of the appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the car’s refined, sophisticated character and its overall quality, which supports the impression that it’s built to be a car you can count on over time.
Mazda also includes connected services for three years, with remote functions such as remote starting and a car finder feature, plus automatic emergency notification after a collision. That kind of support adds convenience early in ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the car’s less practical traits if you plan to keep it for years.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, because accident-free listings are common but not guaranteed. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the car’s electronics, cabin condition, and brake feel, since the model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained. If you’re shopping a turbo model, pay extra attention to how it drives under load and whether the car feels as polished as it should.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup includes sedan and hatchback body styles, with the 2.0 sedan as the entry point, the 2.5 S lineup offering the most variety, and the 2.5 Turbo models sitting at the top. The 2.5 S lineup is where you get the broadest mix of equipment and drivetrains, while the 2.5 Turbo models add a more upscale, performance-oriented feel. Base versions are the most stripped-down, so you’ll want to compare equipment carefully if you care about comfort and convenience features.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet. The turbocharged 2.5-liter raises output to 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet on regular fuel, or 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet on premium fuel. Front-wheel drive is standard on most versions, AWD is available on the 2.5 S, and the turbo models come with standard AWD.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher. Turbo models add adaptive front headlights, and the top 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for three years. An eight-speaker audio system is standard, while many versions get a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system. An Active Driving Display is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 sedan returns 31 mpg in combined driving. The 2.5 S range returns between 27 mpg and 30 mpg combined, depending on trim and powertrain. The turbo models return 26 mpg in the hatchback and 27 mpg in the sedan.
Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 5 trim levels: Mazda3 2.0, Mazda3 2.5 S, Mazda3 2.5 S Select, Mazda3 2.5 S Premium, Mazda3 2.5 Turbo.
Here's the short version:
- Mazda3 2.0: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, but it’s also the least powerful version. It makes sense if your priority is basic Mazda3 style and efficiency rather than stronger acceleration or richer equipment.
- Mazda3 2.5 S: This is the best-value starting point for most shoppers because it gives you the stronger 2.5-liter engine and opens the door to more drivetrain choices. If you want the broadest balance of price, performance, and flexibility, this is the trim to focus on first.
- Mazda3 2.5 S Select: This is the trim where blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard, so it’s the smarter pick if safety convenience matters to you. It’s a good step up if you want more confidence without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Mazda3 2.5 S Premium: This is the one to consider if you want the manual-transmission hatchback, since that setup is exclusive to this trim. It’s the enthusiast-friendly choice in the 2.5 S lineup.
- Mazda3 2.5 Turbo: This is the choice if you want the strongest performance and standard AWD. It also brings adaptive front headlights, and the top Turbo Premium Plus version adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
The safety-package trim note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at the 2.5 S Select trim or higher.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 665 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $20,675 sits slightly below last year's $21,166.
That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. The current range still suggests the car holds a fairly stable value band, especially for shoppers who want a stylish compact with strong appeal.
If you keep the car in good condition and choose a desirable trim, you should have a better shot at preserving value when it’s time to sell. Cars with broad appeal and strong satisfaction tend to stay easier to move in the used market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and the IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick+.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher. Turbo models add adaptive front headlights, and the top Turbo Premium Plus trim adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
That combination makes safety one of the car’s clearest strengths, and the crash-test results reinforce that impression.
Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a Carbon Edition, a new paint color, and Turbo-specific convenience updates.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,169, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,675 average.
- It emphasizes refined turbocharged performance and a more mature, upscale feel.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $22,082, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,675 average.
- It leans harder into upscale comfort and hatchback practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and overall appeal, the 2022 is the one to target first. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the smarter value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling take on the same formula.
