Used 2022 Mazda CX-9 for Sale near New York

How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 12.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 668 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-9 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and comfortable ride, the spacious interior, and the luxurious-feeling features at a good price. They also like the performance and power for everyday commuting, which helps the CX-9 feel polished rather than merely practical.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and unintuitive technology, so the CX-9 fits you best if you want a premium-leaning family SUV more than maximum passenger space or the simplest infotainment setup.

With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners also describe it as dependable in everyday use, with language centered on a trouble-free ownership experience and confidence over the long term. The expert evaluation reinforces that view by calling out the CX-9’s excellent reputation for reliability.

The ownership picture is helped by the fact that Mazda includes a three-year trial of remote monitoring and vehicle control with the MyMazda app, which can make day-to-day use easier. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical reputation and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-9?

At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-9’s cabin is stylish and upscale, and the upper trims add more luxury-oriented equipment. Base-model buyers should pay close attention to feature gaps, especially if you want the richer tech and convenience content found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: All trims use a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter turbo-four with a six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The engine makes 227 horsepower on regular fuel and 250 horsepower on premium fuel, so you should factor fuel choice into how you evaluate performance and value.
• Safety package: The CX-9 includes a broad standard suite with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and parking sensors. Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The CX-9 uses a 10.25-inch display with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Mazda Connected Services, and a three-year trial of remote monitoring and vehicle control. It does not use a touchscreen, so you should make sure you like the control-knob interface before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: Improved fuel economy would be welcome, as the current rating is described as the CX-9’s one glaring weakness.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, Signature, and Touring Plus.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the CX-9’s core strengths — style, ride quality, and standard safety — at the lowest price. It is the trim to consider if you care most about value and can live without the extra convenience and luxury features found higher up.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused upper trims. If you want a more complete daily-driver experience, this is the trim to start with.
• Carbon Edition: This trim adds a more distinctive look and brings extra equipment, including standard SiriusXM and a wireless charging pad. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top of the range.
• Grand Touring: This is where the CX-9 starts to feel especially well equipped, with navigation, the Active Driving Display, and more premium convenience content. It is a strong choice if you want the most balanced mix of luxury and features.
• Signature: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most premium CX-9 experience, with the richest feature set and the strongest luxury impression. It makes the most sense if you want the flagship feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Touring Plus: This trim sits as a step-up option for buyers who want more equipment than Touring without necessarily moving all the way to the upper luxury trims.

Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 668 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $23,575 sits slightly below last year's $26,920.

That price movement suggests the CX-9 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and choose a well-equipped trim, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The standard safety suite includes a rearview camera, full complement of airbags, hill-launch assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, side-impact door beams, an engine immobilizer anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH second-row child seat anchors and upper tether anchors, child safety rear door locks, and front and rear parking sensors. Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines premium-feeling design, strong safety, and a polished driving experience.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,909, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,575 average.
• It offers a similarly premium-feeling midsize SUV with style, performance, technology, and safety.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and a well-rounded premium family SUV, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path.
