CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 873 currently listed for sale near Indianapolis, IN and an average price of $30,304.00, 52.2% of 2022 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2022 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it remains a highly unusual SUV: it can be had as a two-door or four-door convertible, with removable doors, a fold-down windshield, and genuine go-anywhere off-road capability wrapped in retro styling cues. That combination gives it a personality few vehicles can match, and it helps explain why it still feels like a class of one even as other models have moved into similar territory. The 2022 changes only reinforce that appeal, adding to the Wrangler’s already distinctive formula.
What makes the 2022 Jeep Wrangler especially appealing is how much character it delivers. It offers multiple powertrain options, it is fun to drive, and it has impressive off-road capability. At the same time, it is not a vehicle that tries to hide its compromises: fuel economy is poor, the ride quality is poor, and its safety ratings are unimpressive. That mix of strengths and weaknesses is part of the Wrangler’s identity, making it a compelling choice for buyers who value capability and personality more than everyday polish.

I absolutely LOVE my jeep. It has so many features that are so convenient and worth every extra penny .This is also my first car and I don’t care that I spent more than 50k on a car. I had the money and it’s been my dream car since I was younger. The overall worth to me already is more than what I spent and I’d gladly make the same decision over again. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you love it, you want it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! Strongly recommend

How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,739 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,731.27 |
| Year-Round High | $34,051.24 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,030 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.67% |
Prices have softened 9.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,576 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and condition levels.
If you find a listing below $30,731.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.93/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features. They also like the soft top and the Wrangler’s off-road performance, which fits its adventurous personality.
The trade-offs are just as clear: the ride can feel rough, fuel economy is a common complaint, and some buyers question the price. That makes it a better fit if you value character and capability over everyday polish.
For shoppers who want a distinctive SUV with serious personality, the Wrangler’s appeal is easy to understand. In the market, 29.7% of listings are good or great deals, so there are still opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that owners tend to trust for its rugged character, fun factor, and customizable setup. The review summary also reflects a sense that it delivers the kind of dependable, go-anywhere ownership experience buyers expect from a Wrangler.
The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability through its rugged, purpose-built character and its ability to handle demanding use. The 48-volt mild-hybrid setup also adds a bit of extra electric-motor muscle when accelerating from a stop.
If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting that this kind of capability comes with compromises in comfort, efficiency, and refinement.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a Wrangler’s off-road appeal can mean harder use than the average SUV. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of trail wear, roof and door condition, and any evidence of modifications or heavy use.
Pay close attention to how the vehicle was equipped, since many useful features were optional rather than standard. That matters a lot on a Wrangler, where trim and package choices can change the ownership experience significantly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The core trims are Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions can feel sparse, while higher-spec models and special editions add more convenience and appearance equipment.
- Powertrain: You can shop this model with a turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, or plug-in hybrid powertrain. The V6 setup can be paired with a manual or automatic transmission, and 4WD is standard.
- Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, though real-world results can be lower.
Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it serves as the basis for the High Tide test vehicle and gives you a better starting point for adding useful convenience and tech packages.
- Sahara: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented setup while still keeping the Wrangler’s core character and available equipment flexibility.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to target if off-road capability is your priority, since it sits at the top of the core lineup and is the most trail-focused choice.
The Safety Group is a worthwhile upgrade, while the Advanced Safety Group is more of a nice-to-have.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,576 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.67% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,731.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $30,739 sits slightly below last year's $34,030.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has softened from its prior level, which can help you buy more affordably today. For a future seller, that also means resale performance will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Because demand is tied closely to the Wrangler’s image, capability, and owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Trim choice and equipment level will also matter, especially if you want to appeal to buyers looking for a more desirable configuration.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Wrangler earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, and IIHS testing rates it Marginal in the small overlap front test and Marginal in the side-impact test. Headlights rate Poor with the standard units and Marginal with the LED upgrades.
It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.
The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Safety features are optional rather than standard, so you should look closely at whether a used example has the right package. The Wrangler’s crash-test results also mean you should treat safety as a key shopping priority, not an afterthought.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and keeps the Wrangler’s distinctive formula intact.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,510, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $30,739 average.
- It adds a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 in the four-door model.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $35,491, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $30,739 average.
- It emphasizes serious off-road ability with solid axles and a five-link suspension.
The bottom line: If you want the current-year Wrangler with softer pricing and strong inventory, the 2022 is the sensible default. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
