Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Civic sedan stands out because it was reworked, rethought, and redesigned to keep Honda’s best-selling compact car at the top of the market. Honda says 75 percent of Civic owners return in the future to buy another one of the company’s vehicles, which helps explain why this redesign mattered so much to the brand. The result is a Civic that Honda says it nailed in terms of redesign, engineering, and technology, with few exceptions, and that positions it as one of the best compact cars you can buy.
What makes the 2022 Honda Civic sedan especially appealing is the way it balances driving enjoyment with everyday usefulness. Its strengths include great handling, plenty of cargo space, and impressive technology. Owners also praise its blend of technology, comfort, driving performance, smooth ride, and impressive fuel economy. The main drawbacks are a base stereo that is lacking and a value proposition that may not feel especially strong, and some owners also mention missing features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and a trunk closure issue.

I think this car offers a lot of value for the money. It comes with a strong set of features that make it comfortable, practical, and enjoyable to drive. The design looks modern, and it has many of the technology and safety features that most drivers are looking for today. One of the biggest strengths of this car is its balance between performance, comfort, and affordability. It feels like you get a lot without having to move into a much higher price range. While no vehicle is perfect, this car does a great job meeting the needs of most drivers. The overall package is competitive and well-rounded, making it a smart choice for someone looking for reliability, style, and everyday usability. Compared with other vehicles in its class, this car stands out as a strong contender and is definitely worth considering. It offers an attractive combination of features, value, and driving experience that makes it easy to recommend.

Car was super clean, better than what the pictures showed. Features are good and it was very low mileage. If I have to add something to the car, it would be the back up sensors and blind spot sensors. Other than that it was a great purchase

How much does the 2022 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,518 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,774 |
| Year-Round High | $23,327 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,326 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.46% |
Prices have softened 3.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,856 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Honda Civic earns a 4.94/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its blend of technology, comfort, driving performance, smooth ride, and impressive fuel economy. They also like the advanced features and the way the car feels easy to live with day to day.
The main trade-offs are a base stereo that falls short and a value proposition that may not feel especially strong. In practical terms, this is a compact sedan that fits well if you want a refined commuter with strong everyday usability rather than the cheapest possible ownership experience.
With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, trouble-free, and easy to count on, with strong praise for its long-term appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes trust, predictability, and a demeanor that never feels surprising on the road.
Honda’s upgraded driver-assistance and vehicle systems are described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined, which supports confidence in daily use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?
At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any signs of prior bodywork or uneven wear. Focus on panel alignment, tire condition, brake feel, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX and Sport have a more basic setup, while the EX and Touring add more desirable equipment and better interior presentation. The base trims also miss the blind-spot warning system, which is a meaningful gap if safety tech matters to you.
- Powertrain: LX and Sport use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while EX and Touring get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the more satisfying choice if you want stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. EX adds a proper blind-spot warning system, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged engine is described as delivering a satisfying blend of performance and efficiency, and the expert test drive noted 30.4 mpg on a 95-mile loop versus an EPA estimate of 34 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, but it keeps things basic with the 2.0-liter engine, four-speaker audio, and no blind-spot warning. It makes sense only if your priority is getting into the Civic at the lowest price.
- Sport: This adds a little more visual and equipment appeal, but it still uses the base engine and still skips blind-spot warning. It is a reasonable step up if you want a nicer-feeling Civic without moving too far up the price ladder.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the turbocharged engine and the proper blind-spot warning system. If you want the strongest mix of everyday comfort, safety, and performance, this is the trim to target.
- Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 9-inch screen, wireless smartphone features, premium Bose audio, navigation, and rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you best if you want the most polished Civic and are willing to pay for it.
The safety-package gap is important here: blind-spot warning is not available on LX or Sport, so the EX is the smarter buy if that feature matters to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,856 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,774, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $22,518 sits slightly below last year's $23,326.
That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than assuming the market will keep rising.
The good news is that this model has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, which helps support demand over time. Well-equipped trims should be easier to resell than stripped-down versions, especially if they have clean history and strong maintenance records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?
The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The system is described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined than before, and the car also adds a proper blind-spot warning system on EX and rear cross-traffic alert on Touring.
The safety story is stronger on higher trims because LX and Sport do not get blind-spot warning. That makes the EX the safer pick if you want the most important driver-assistance upgrade without going all the way to Touring.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Honda says the redesign, engineering, and technology were nailed with few exceptions, making this one of the best compact cars you can buy.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,474, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,518 average.
- It is the outgoing generation, which can appeal if you want a lower-cost Civic with a proven formula.
The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Civic with newer design, stronger tech, and improved safety features, the 2022 is the better primary choice. If your budget is tighter and you mainly want a lower entry price, the 2021 is the more affordable alternative.
