CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 264 currently listed for sale near Raleigh, NC and an average price of $46,869.00, 34.5% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
87.9% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style with capability, and it does so with the kind of premium touches GMC uses to separate itself from more mainstream truck-based rivals. For 2022, it gains a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a vehicle that already offers a distinctive mix of utility and upscale design. It is also available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
What makes the 2022 Yukon especially appealing is its breadth of strengths. It offers multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, which should matter to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duty and hauling with confidence. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so the Yukon’s appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize capability, space, and a more premium feel over efficiency and bargain pricing.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

2022 GMC Yukon Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2022 GMC Yukon prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 GMC Yukon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $48,198 |
| Year-Round Low | $48,205.55 |
| Year-Round High | $54,525.12 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,487 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.54% |
Prices have softened 11.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,340 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $48,205.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
The Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV with a premium design, a spacious three-row cabin, and strong capability. It also gives you a choice of three engines, including a diesel option that broadens its appeal if you want more range and torque.
The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy and poor value for money. If you want a large SUV that emphasizes comfort, towing, and upscale features, the Yukon fits that use case well; if your priority is minimizing running costs, you should weigh those compromises carefully.
34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brings a more spacious cabin, improved cargo room, and a smoother ride thanks to its independent rear suspension. It also pairs that with a broad engine lineup and a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty for the diesel, which adds confidence if you’re considering that version.
The diesel’s strong torque and long-range capability are especially appealing if you plan to tow or cover a lot of miles. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been abused by heavy-duty use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or trucks that may have seen towing duty. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE has cloth seats, while other trims get perforated leather. The SLE also misses some of the higher-end cabin touches and safety upgrades found farther up the range.
- Powertrain: You get a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel stands out for its torque, fuel economy, and long-range capability.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above.
- Infotainment: The Yukon uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. A WiFi hotspot is available.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy is 16-17 mpg with the V8 engines and 22-23 mpg with the diesel. The diesel is the efficiency standout, especially if you tow or drive long distances.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SLE gives you the Yukon’s core space and capability, but it starts with cloth seats and misses some of the added safety and convenience features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SLT is the best value pick if you want a more upscale feel, because it adds more standard equipment and gets GMC Pro Safety Plus.
- Premium/top trim: The Denali is the luxury choice, with distinctive chrome styling, richer interior materials, standard heated and cooled front seats, and the most upscale cabin presentation.
- Off-road trim: The AT4 is the one to choose if you want the off-road look and hardware, but its specialized setup makes it less of a default daily-driver pick than the SLT or Denali.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is standard on SLT and above, so that’s the key safety-package upgrade to keep in mind.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,340 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.54% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $48,205.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $48,198 sits slightly below last year's $54,487.
That price movement suggests the Yukon has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. Higher-demand trims and well-equipped examples should hold up better than stripped versions.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
It earns four-star ratings in front crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side crash protection from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above.
The Yukon also offers a Safety Alert Seat and an adjustable rear camera mirror, both of which add useful everyday awareness. The main caveat is that the NHTSA rollover rating is lower than the rest of the crash results, so you should keep that in mind if you plan to drive it in ways that raise stability demands.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds enhanced connectivity and keeps the Yukon’s spacious, premium full-size SUV formula intact.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $43,129, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $48,198 average.
- It delivers a redesigned cabin with more space and a smoother ride.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year market position, the 2022 is the better all-around target because it combines solid inventory, a lower average price than last year, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the redesigned Yukon experience.
