CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 3,313 currently listed for sale and an average price of $47,858.00, 34.3% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
84.2% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style with capability, and it does so with the kind of premium touches GMC uses to separate itself from more mainstream truck-based rivals. For 2022, it gains a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a vehicle that already offers a distinctive mix of utility and upscale design. It is also available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
What makes the 2022 Yukon especially appealing is its breadth of strengths. It offers multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, which should matter to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duty and hauling with confidence. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so the Yukon’s appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize capability, space, and a more premium feel over efficiency and bargain pricing.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

The trade-offs are clear, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so it fits you best if capability and space matter more than efficiency or bargain pricing.
The market also shows 30.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon is described as a redesigned full-size SUV that gains space, ride quality, and technology, and its available diesel setup is backed by a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The diesel also delivers excellent fuel economy and up to 648 miles of range on a tank, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership strain if you drive a lot.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, premium, truck-based SUV can be expensive to keep in top shape, especially if you choose a higher-spec version with more equipment to maintain.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension behavior, interior wear, and how well the electronics and driver aids operate. It also makes sense to compare trims closely, since equipment differences are meaningful on this model year.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but it uses cloth seats, while higher trims add perforated leather and more upscale cabin details. The AT4 brings unique off-road styling, and the Denali adds the most distinctive interior treatment and standard second-row captain’s chairs.
- Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel stands out for excellent fuel economy and strong torque, while the V8s emphasize power and towing ability.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above but only available on SLE.
- Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. AT4 and Denali also get three years of connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: The V8 models return 16-17 mpg combined, while diesel versions average 22-23 mpg combined. The diesel is the better choice if fuel costs matter to you.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Yukon’s premium exterior presence and standard seating for eight. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and plan to add only the options you truly need.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel with perforated leather and unlocks more available equipment, while still staying below the specialty trims.
- AT4: Choose this if you want the Yukon’s off-road-oriented styling and hardware, including unique front styling, a skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive interior designs, standard second-row captain’s chairs, heated and cooled front seats, and the most premium presentation overall.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, so safety equipment improves as you move up the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,307 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,741.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $47,724 sits slightly below last year's $54,351.
That price decline suggests the Yukon has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to hold it for a while. If demand stays steady, a lower entry price can improve your odds of limiting future loss relative to what you pay today.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon received an overall rating of four stars from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection, five-star ratings for side crash protection, and three-star ratings for rollover resistance.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above.
The main caveat is the rollover result, which is lower than the rest of the crash-test performance, so you should weigh that carefully if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.19% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $42,614, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,724 average.
- It delivers meaningful gains in space, ride quality, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping position, the 2022 is the better target because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
