CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 3,340 currently listed for sale and an average price of $48,180.00, 34.6% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
85.8% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style with capability, and it does so with the kind of premium touches GMC uses to separate itself from more mainstream truck-based rivals. For 2022, it gains a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a vehicle that already offers a distinctive mix of utility and upscale design. It is also available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
What makes the 2022 Yukon especially appealing is its breadth of strengths. It offers multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, which should matter to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duty and hauling with confidence. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so the Yukon’s appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize capability, space, and a more premium feel over efficiency and bargain pricing.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

2022 GMC Yukon Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2022 GMC Yukon prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 GMC Yukon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $48,193 |
| Year-Round Low | $48,184.34 |
| Year-Round High | $54,544.75 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,550 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.65% |
Prices have softened 11.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 3,347 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and equipment levels.
If you find a listing below $48,184.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
The Yukon’s appeal starts with its premium styling, spacious cabin, and strong capability. It also gives you a choice of three engines, including a diesel option, plus a roomy three-row layout and a large cargo area.
The trade-offs are clear: fuel economy trails the class leaders, and value for money is not its strongest suit. If you want a full-size SUV that leans into comfort, towing, and upscale presentation, the Yukon fits that brief well.
The market backs that up, with 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brought a more spacious cabin, improved cargo room, and a smoother ride thanks to independent rear suspension. Its powertrain lineup also includes a diesel option with strong torque and impressive range, which adds flexibility for long-distance driving and towing.
The diesel setup is backed by a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds peace of mind if you plan to keep the SUV for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly, especially if you’re shopping for a higher-mileage example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-trim or heavily optioned examples. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, interior wear, and whether the electronics and driver aids work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE has cloth seats, while higher trims add perforated leather, and the Denali brings a more upscale cabin with unique interior designs. The SLE also misses some of the safety upgrades that become standard higher up the range.
- Powertrain: You get a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel. The diesel stands out for its torque and fuel economy, while the V8s emphasize stronger traditional gas power.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above but available on SLE.
- Infotainment: The Yukon uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. AT4 and Denali also get three years of connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy lands at 16-17 mpg with the V8 engines and 22-23 mpg with the diesel. The diesel is the efficiency standout, especially if you drive long distances or tow often.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SLE gives you the Yukon’s core space and capability, but it starts with cloth seats and misses some of the added safety content found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SLT is the best value if you want a more upscale feel, because it adds perforated leather and standard GMC Pro Safety Plus.
- Premium/top trim: The Denali is the luxury pick, with the richest interior presentation, standard heated and cooled front seats, and the most upscale cabin treatment.
- Off-road trim: The AT4 is the one to choose if you want the off-road look and hardware, but its unique equipment makes it less of a default daily-driver choice than the SLT or Denali.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is standard on SLT and above, so that’s the trim line where the safety package meaningfully steps up.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,347 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $48,184.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $48,193 sits slightly below last year's $54,550.
That price movement suggests the Yukon has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to last year’s average.
Strong demand for full-size SUVs with premium features can also help support resale, especially for well-equipped trims in good condition. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash and all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is standard on SLT and above.
The main caveat is the rollover result, which trails the SUV’s stronger side-impact performance. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to trim level, because the more advanced driver-assistance package is not standard on the base model.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and improved connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $43,017, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $48,193 average.
- It delivers a redesigned cabin with more passenger and cargo space.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and the added 2022 tech updates, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
