The 2022 Ford EcoSport is a nimble and economical subcompact SUV that offers a unique side-hinged rear hatch. It provides helpful access to up to 50 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, or up to 20.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats when they’re in use. The EcoSport was introduced for the 2018 model year, and it appears that it will be discontinued after the 2022 model year. For this potentially final year, the front-wheel drive variant has been dropped, leaving all-wheel drive as the sole setup.

Trims for the 2022 EcoSport are S, SE, Titanium, and SES. Standard features on the S trim include manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, two USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 4.2-inch audio display screen.

Moving up to the SE trim adds a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a moonroof, push-button start, and automatic climate control. It also adds an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs the intuitive SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Titanium trim adds features such as leather upholstery, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker premium stereo system. The SES features rain-sensing windshield wipers, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and a sport-tuned suspension. It also swaps out the B & O stereo for a seven-speaker stereo.

Buyers can select advanced driver assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Modern driver assistance features such as forward-collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control are not even available on the EcoSport. Such features are standard on some rival subcompact SUVs, such as the Mazda CX-30.

The EcoSport comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It makes 166 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission to all-wheel drive. When properly equipped, the EcoSport can tow up to 2,000 pounds. This powertrain setup returns 23 mpg city, 29 highway, 25 combined. That’s not stellar compared to the rest of the segment, especially considering the “Eco” in its name.

The Ford EcoSport is backed by a three-year/36,000-mile powertrain warranty. Pricing is not yet available for the 2022 Ford EcoSport.
