CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Dodge Challenger

Summary
With 3,529 currently listed for sale and an average price of $35,195, 30.6% of 2022 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Dodge Challenger 4.72 / 5 stars.
79.1% of 2022 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Dodge Challenger stands out as a modern muscle car that keeps the classic coupe formula alive while offering a wide range of personalities. It is a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, which helps make it feel more practical than its old-school styling might suggest. It was also designed on a platform suitable for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, giving it unusual flexibility for the segment.
What makes the Challenger especially distinctive is the breadth of its powertrain and performance choices. Over the years, it was offered with Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines, along with Tremec six-speed manual, five-speed automatic, and ZF eight-speed automatic transmissions. Performance hardware such as adaptive suspension, launch control, Brembo brakes and calipers, and Mopar tuning options added to its appeal, while special editions and trims brought extra visual drama through spoilers, hood scoops, unique grilles, special upholstery, and badging. Widebody versions were offered for some trims in 2019 and 2020, adding broader fenders.
For buyers, the Challenger’s appeal is its mix of character, variety, and everyday usability. It was known for head-turning colors and numerous special editions, and later examples are generally regarded as better than earlier ones. At the same time, it is worth noting that many were neglected or abused, and the model years from 2012 to 2014 are known for engine problems.

I have had 3 challengers v-6,Daytona 392 scat pack and now the hellcat. What I like is the auto stick option and the paddles ,it’s not manual but it’s as close to it as possible.I owned a 2023 Shelby and it wasn’t manual either but it had a turn knob and also paddles and in comparison I think they’re pretty much the same I like the fact that the hellcat has a few more options the set.pack etc.and it’s roomier also. The power is definitely there and the roaring is fun to hear. I wish I could test drive a redeye and a demon just for comparison, but the hellcat is awesome in my opinion.

Challenger Hellcats are purchased primarily for the powerful engines. The car also has most features you would expect in a performance automobile: AC, nice stereo, power adjustable drivers seat. 2023 was the last year for the Hellcats and Hemi engines. Cars 2 to 3 years or older with low mileage may be great values. These cars are heavier than most other sports cars and not as nimble on curves but straight line speed is impressive with the Hellcats. Others to consider would be the Corvette and Mustang.

Is the 2022 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — 4.72/5 is a strong user rating, and owners consistently praise the car’s fun-to-drive character, plenty of power, classic styling, and comfortable interior. The user feedback also highlights the quiet cabin and plush seating, which helps the Challenger work better as an everyday coupe than its old-school look might suggest. For you, that means this model year fits best if you want a muscle car with personality, modern tech, and enough practicality for regular use. 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with a strong reputation for being fun while still comfortable enough to live with. That combination suggests many buyers have been able to count on it over time, especially when they value the car’s character as much as its performance. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about finding one that was cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Dodge Challenger?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with the history report so you can confirm accident status, title status, and ownership patterns before you go any further. After that, put inspection priority on overall condition, since this model has a reputation for attracting both careful owners and neglected examples. Focus on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any cosmetic or mechanical issues that suggest the car was driven more aggressively than it was maintained.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Dodge Challenger?
This is still a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when you find the right car.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,502 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.67% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 79.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $31,637, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $34,940 sits slightly above last year's $33,703.
That upward movement suggests the market continues to value this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. A stable-to-rising price trend is useful for future sellers because it signals ongoing demand rather than a softening market. If you keep the car in clean condition and avoid examples with questionable history, you improve your odds of holding value well.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.67% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,514, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,940 average.
- It emphasizes straight-line speed and style over all-around versatility.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $43,490, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $34,940 average.
- It adds final-year special editions and more power.
The bottom line:
The 2022 is the best all-around starting point if you want a strong mix of price, satisfaction, and market availability. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can live with its more focused personality. If you want the newest and most collectible-feeling option, the 2023 is the premium path, but you’ll pay noticeably more for it.
