CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Dodge Challenger

Summary
With 3,422 currently listed for sale and an average price of $35,215.00, 29.4% of 2022 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Dodge Challenger 4.72 / 5 stars.
79.7% of 2022 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Dodge Challenger stands out as a modern muscle car that kept the classic coupe formula alive for a long run. It was part of the third generation, which stretched from 2008 to 2023, and Dodge kept the car fresh with a variety of powertrains, head-turning colors, numerous special editions, and a 2015 facelift. That mix of old-school presence and ongoing updates is a big part of the Challenger’s appeal, especially for buyers who want a car that makes a statement without giving up modern conveniences.
For 2022, the Challenger’s appeal also came from its broad range of hardware and trim choices. It was a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that included a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, and it was designed on a platform suitable for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The model line offered Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines, along with manual and automatic transmissions, plus performance equipment such as adaptive suspension, launch control, Brembo brakes and calipers, and Mopar tuning options. Widebody variations were offered for some trims in 2019 and 2020, adding broader fenders, while special editions often brought spoilers, hood scoops, unique fascia and grille designs, special upholstery, and distinctive badging.
The Challenger was not without drawbacks. The buying guide notes that many examples were neglected or abused, and it also warns that the 2012 to 2014 model years are known for engine problems, though models built after those dates are described as fairly reliable. Even so, the 2022 Dodge Challenger remains attractive for shoppers who want a practical muscle car with strong personality, a wide spread of performance choices, and the kind of styling that still turns heads.

I have had 3 challengers v-6,Daytona 392 scat pack and now the hellcat. What I like is the auto stick option and the paddles ,it’s not manual but it’s as close to it as possible.I owned a 2023 Shelby and it wasn’t manual either but it had a turn knob and also paddles and in comparison I think they’re pretty much the same I like the fact that the hellcat has a few more options the set.pack etc.and it’s roomier also. The power is definitely there and the roaring is fun to hear. I wish I could test drive a redeye and a demon just for comparison, but the hellcat is awesome in my opinion.

Challenger Hellcats are purchased primarily for the powerful engines. The car also has most features you would expect in a performance automobile: AC, nice stereo, power adjustable drivers seat. 2023 was the last year for the Hellcats and Hemi engines. Cars 2 to 3 years or older with low mileage may be great values. These cars are heavier than most other sports cars and not as nimble on curves but straight line speed is impressive with the Hellcats. Others to consider would be the Corvette and Mustang.

Is the 2022 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.72/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise the car’s fun-to-drive character, plenty of power, classic styling, and comfortable interior. The review summary also highlights the quiet cabin and plush seating, which helps the Challenger work as more than just a straight-line muscle car.
That makes it a strong fit if you want a coupe with personality, modern tech, and everyday comfort rather than a purely practical commuter. With 27.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a car that owners find dependable in the ways that matter most to them: it feels fun, satisfying, and well-liked over time. It also reinforces the Challenger’s appeal as a car people enjoy living with for the long haul, especially when they value its blend of classic style and modern convenience.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the badge and more about how the individual car was treated, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Dodge Challenger?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then inspect the car closely for signs of hard use, neglect, or poor repairs. Because this model can attract enthusiastic owners, condition matters as much as mileage.
Focus on wear items, panel alignment, and how well the car has been maintained overall. A careful pre-purchase inspection is especially important if the car has performance upgrades or signs of aggressive driving.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Dodge Challenger?

- Inventory: There are 3,491 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.14% year-over-year.

What is the 2022 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $35,278 sits slightly above last year's $33,876.
That upward move suggests the market still values this Challenger’s mix of style, performance, and name recognition. If you buy well and keep the car in clean condition, you may have a better shot at holding value than with a more ordinary coupe.
The price trend also shows that buyers are still willing to pay for the right example, especially when the car presents well and has a clean history. Strong demand can help support resale when it’s time for you to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.14% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $32,285, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $35,278 average.
- It emphasizes straight-line speed and value.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $43,574, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,278 average.
- It adds final-year special editions and more power.
The bottom line:
The 2022 is the best all-around starting point if you want the current-year balance of price, availability, and owner satisfaction. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want the final-year sendoff and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is the more collectible choice.
