Overview
Many automakers have trimmed their model lines by removing slower-selling cars and adding more in-demand SUVs. Buick is no exception, though its lineup remains quite small, with just a handful of models. The smallest vehicle in that small lineup is the Buick Encore subcompact crossover. It hasn’t received many updates for 2022, as Buick cut the offering down to one trim level, but the remaining trim gets a more powerful engine and a slight improvement in interior storage options.
Though it’s based on the Chevrolet Trax, Buick gave the Encore a massage in key areas to bump its comfort and style factors. The sole Encore Preferred trim is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and buyers can upgrade from the standard front-wheel drive (FWD) to all-wheel drive (AWD).
Buick offers several options packages to upgrade the Encore, which add key safety and interior features. The Safety Package includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Safety Package II brings automatic wipers, front/rear parking assist, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Those features can also be added a la carte as well, with varying price tags for each.
While a wide variety of upgrades are available, Buick charges for most niceties, including paint colors. If you want an Encore in any other color than white, it will cost between $495 and $1,095 to change hues. Both interior colors are included in the price, however, as buyers can choose between black cloth with leatherette or shale cloth with leatherette upholstery.
The Encore gets standard interior features that include a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, power driver’s seat adjustments, six speakers, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, SiriusXM satellite radio, and more. Buick is known for its quiet interiors, and to that end, the Encore gets the brand’s QuietTuning noise-isolating trickery.
The 2022 Buick Encore is on sale now and can be configured on Buick’s website. The Preferred FWD trim starts at $25,795, which includes a $1,195 destination charge. AWD moves that price to $26,415.

How much does the 2022 Buick Encore cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,550 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,550 |
| Year-Round High | $19,350 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,351 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.14% |
Prices have softened 4.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 336 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Buick Encore a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating suggests strong owner satisfaction for this model year.
That kind of feedback can make the Encore a more confident used-car choice, and 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which adds some shopping flexibility.
Is the 2022 Buick Encore reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that points to lower perceived ownership risk, especially if you verify maintenance history and overall condition before committing.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a pre-purchase inspection and focus on signs of wear, prior damage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. A clean history report is a good start, but condition and service records matter just as much.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 336 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,550, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Buick Encore's resale value?
The current average of $18,550 sits slightly below last year's $19,351.
That suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing trend may limit upside in the short term, but steady demand can still support a reasonable resale outcome. Condition, mileage, and history will matter a lot when it comes time to trade or sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2022 makes sense if you want a used Encore with solid owner satisfaction and a market that still offers some deal potential. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2022 is the better starting point if you want a balanced mix of value, inventory, and buyer confidence.
