How much does the 2022 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 270 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW M4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The M4’s appeal comes from its focused driving personality, strong power, and handling that make it especially attractive if you care more about driving feel than everyday softness. It also brings impressive technology and free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.

The trade-offs are a potentially polarizing design and poor fuel economy. Even so, the market still shows 31.5% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The M4’s reliability case is helped by its strong performance focus and the fact that BMW includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles. That kind of coverage can reduce early ownership friction and make the car easier to live with during the first stretch of ownership.

At the same time, this is a high-performance luxury car, so long-term ownership risk rises once you move beyond the covered maintenance window and start paying for wear items and repairs yourself.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension, and any signs of hard use, since this model is built around performance. It also helps to pay close attention to condition details on the interior and exterior, especially if the car has been modified or tracked.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The M4’s design is distinctive and the cabin is well executed, but the base model leaves some safety tech as optional, so you should compare equipment carefully before you buy.
• Powertrain: The M4 uses a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and the Competition tune raises output to 503 horsepower with 479 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, park distance control, automatic high-beam headlights, Active Protection, and Active Driving Assistant, but many safety features are optional on the base model.
• Infotainment: BMW Live Cockpit Professional and iDrive 7 bring a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloud-based BMW Maps, and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The M4 is rated at 19 mpg combined, while xDrive-equipped versions are rated at 18 combined mpg.

Which 2022 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW M4 is offered in 3 trim levels: M4, M4 Competition, M4 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M4: This is the entry point, but it still delivers the core M4 experience with the twin-turbo inline-six and strong performance. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the lineup and are comfortable with a more basic equipment mix.
• M4 Competition: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more power and sharper performance without jumping all the way to the most expensive setup. If you want the strongest balance of capability and price, this is the one to target.
• M4 Competition xDrive: This is the choice if you want the most traction and the quickest acceleration, especially in poor weather or if you simply want the most complete performance package.

The base model leaves more safety tech optional, so it is worth checking equipment closely before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW M4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop with some patience and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 270 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,111, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $68,939 sits slightly below last year's $69,634.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value because you are not dealing with sharp swings in demand.

The M4’s strong enthusiast appeal should also help support demand over time, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. If you buy carefully and maintain it well, you should have a better shot at preserving value than you would with a less distinctive performance car.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW M4 safe?

The 2022 BMW M4 has not been crash tested by either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, park distance control, automatic high-beam headlights, an Active Protection package with automatic front seat belt tensioning, automatic closing of windows and moonroof, fatigue and focus alert, and post-collision braking, plus an Active Driving Assistant package with lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear-collision preparation.

Many safety features are optional on the base model, so you should verify exactly what is installed on any used example you are considering. BMW also does not offer pedestrian detection on this model.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds xDrive to the top-spec M4 Competition for the first time.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $65,045, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $68,939 average.
• It emphasizes a more involved driving experience with a manual transmission.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $71,751, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $68,939 average.
• It adds the limited-edition M4 CSL for buyers who want more exclusivity.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the best mix of current-market pricing, strong satisfaction, and the year’s key performance updates. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the value play; if you want something rarer and more special, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
