How much does the 2022 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,784 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, great handling, stylish design, fuel efficiency, and quick acceleration. That lines up with the 3 Series’ role as a luxury sports sedan that still emphasizes driving enjoyment while remaining easy to live with day to day.

The trade-offs are worth weighing: a manual transmission is not available, advanced safety features are not standard, and the stereo is lacking. If you want a sedan that blends everyday usability with a driver-focused feel, this model year fits that brief well.

Only 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective but still gives you some room to shop.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to shoppers who want sporty performance without giving up everyday usability.

The owner summary highlights strong performance, handling, fuel efficiency, and quick acceleration, while also noting concerns about oil leak issues and high maintenance costs. The expert evaluation reinforces that this is a car built around driving confidence and precision, with a drivetrain and chassis setup that feel composed and well sorted.

BMW also includes free scheduled maintenance, which helps soften some ownership costs early on. Even so, used buyers should budget carefully and inspect service history closely, since maintenance expenses can still be a meaningful part of long-term ownership.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage, optional performance equipment, or signs of heavy use. Focus on condition, service records, and whether the car’s equipment matches what you expect for the trim and options.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3. The base 330i is the entry point, while the M340i adds a more powerful six-cylinder setup and more aggressive styling, and the M3 sits at the high-performance end. If you want the best balance of performance and value, the M340i is the standout to compare closely against the lower trims.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with the 330e adding plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology and an estimated 23 miles of electric driving range. The M340i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, 382 horsepower, and 368 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require the optional Driving Assistance package, while the Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.
• Infotainment: Every 2022 3 Series gets Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, BMW Remote Services, and the Intelligent Personal Assistant. The system is easy to use, but the available audio setup is basic for the class.
• Fuel efficiency: The M340i returned 24.9 mpg on the evaluation route and is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the entry point if you want the core 3 Series experience at the lowest price in the lineup. It gives you the standard tech and the brand’s sporty sedan character without stepping into the more expensive performance-focused trims.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid option and the added efficiency angle. It’s the trim to consider if your driving pattern lets you take advantage of electric-only commuting.
• M340i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers who care about driving enjoyment. It adds the turbocharged inline-six, stronger performance, and the more athletic setup that makes the 3 Series feel special.
• M3: Pick this only if you want the highest-performance version and are willing to pay for it. It sits at the top of the range and is the most extreme expression of the 3 Series formula.

For safety equipment, remember that blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard and require the optional Driving Assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,784 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,381, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $28,526 sits slightly below last year's $30,598.

That decline suggests the market has cooled enough to give you a better entry point than a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less immediate downside if you buy well, especially if you choose a desirable trim and keep the car in strong condition.

The year-round range also shows that prices have stayed fairly tight, which can help support resale stability if demand remains steady. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should be easier to move than neglected cars with missing service records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s standard safety tech package includes Active Guard, which brings forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, you need the optional Driving Assistance package. The Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.

One important caveat is that the IIHS award requires the optional adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight. That means not every 3 Series configuration qualifies for the accolade, so you should confirm the headlight setup on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the familiar 3 Series formula with standard Live Cockpit Professional and a driver-focused setup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,432, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,526 average.
• It adds the 330e plug-in hybrid to the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $34,372, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,526 average.
• It brings a refreshed look and updated tech.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, performance, and familiar 3 Series character, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want newer styling and updates, it makes sense to stretch to the 2023.
