Overview
The Audi A5’s curves and swoops got a mild overhaul for 2021, making changes to the 2022 model less dramatic by comparison. The car is available as both a coupe and a convertible for the new model year, and there’s also a separate Sportback version with four doors. Audi’s updates to the car amount to a few new available options and a new appearance package for S-Line cars.
Six main A5 models are available for 2022. The A5 Coupe and Cabriolet (convertible) are each available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. Beyond the four-door A5 Sportback, Audi will likely introduce sportier S5 and RS5 models, powered by red-hot turbocharged V6 engines and carrying track-ready performance equipment. Buyers may also consider cars such as the Lexus IS, the BMW 4-Series, or the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The 2022 A5 line is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine accompanied by a hybrid system. The car’s output now lands at 261 horsepower, compared to its predecessor’s 248 ponies. Standard all-wheel drive (AWD) keeps all four wheels turning when they’re needed to deliver the best traction and handling possible.
Starting north of $40,000, the A5 carries a premium price. Thankfully for buyers, it’s got a premium interior to match. Depending on the trim and options packages, the car can be equipped with upscale aluminum trim, soft leather upholstery, and an oh-so-nice leather-wrapped steering wheel. The A5’s center stack is capped off with a 10.1-inch touchscreen that runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers can option in features like a premium Bang & Olufsen stereo and navigation.
Audi hasn’t announced an official on-sale date for the 2022 A5 in any of its configurations, but we expect to learn more later in 2021. The base A5 Premium Coupe starts at $45,545 after destination, while the Premium Cabriolet starts at $51,745. At the top end, the Prestige Coupe starts at $54,995 and the Prestige Cabriolet starts at $62,495.

The car looks spectacular, the ride quality is great, and the performance is excellent. All as expected making the car a good value. The specific controls are unique to Audi and require a short learning curve but are quickly resolved. Very similar to the Audi S5, our A5 provides great performance and the slightly smaller engine delivers fun acceleration along with better milage.

Is the 2022 Audi A5 a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Audi A5 is a strong choice if you want a stylish luxury coupe, convertible, or Sportback with a premium feel and everyday usability. The 5/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction, and the model’s appeal comes from its upscale interior, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the way the Sportback adds real practicality without losing the A5’s sleek character. It also sits in the more modern part of the second generation, with the 2020 touchscreen update and 2021 powertrain changes already in place. 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Audi A5 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 A5’s overview points to a well-developed second-generation model with updated tech and a revised powertrain, which is a good sign if you want a used luxury car that feels current. Its strong safety recognition also supports confidence in the platform. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the basic formula and more about making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by age, mileage, or neglect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A5?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks the car’s condition closely. Pay extra attention to signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and whether the cabin and body still reflect the premium condition you expect from an A5. Because the model’s appeal depends so much on refinement, you’ll want to be especially careful about cosmetic condition, interior wear, and how well the car has been kept overall.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and compare examples before committing.
- Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 168 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 82.1% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2022 Audi A5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2022 Audi A5 is the right pick if you want a modernized second-generation A5 with strong owner satisfaction, solid market availability, and the updated powertrain and tech already in place. If you’re more price-sensitive, it also makes sense to compare nearby years and shop for the cleanest example with the best history and condition rather than focusing only on the model year badge.
