Though the Audi A5 Coupe and Cabriolet were redesigned in 2018 and received new features in 2019, Audi isn’t content to let it rest. For 2020, the A5 lineup gets updated infotainment system software and a larger display, plus refreshed exterior styling. The A5 line competes against vehicles such as the BMW 4 Series, Acura TLX, Genesis G70, Infiniti Q60, Jaguar XE, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi's own A4. The upscale and athletic A5 didn’t really need any styling updates, but it’s getting them anyway. Its low stance and graceful profile are enhanced with a reworked front end featuring a wider, flatter honeycomb grille, more dramatic bumper trim, and larger air inlets that emphasize performance. LED front and rear lighting comes standard, and LED matrix lighting is optional. The powertrain carries over unchanged and consists of a 2.0-liter TFSI 4-cylinder engine, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT), and all-wheel drive (AWD). This setup is good for 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. With the automatic transmission, EPA ratings come in at 24 mpg city, 32 highway, and 27 combined for coupe versions and 23, 31, 26 for convertibles. Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual driving modes come standard, and the A5 Coupe can be upgraded with a sport suspension system. Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims carry over from last year, with similar lists of standard and optional features. The A5 includes 8-way power front seats, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, LED ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and Audi's customizable virtual cockpit display. Options include heated front seats, a hands-free trunk, sport seats, and ventilated front seats. For 2020, the A5 gets a new 10.1-inch touchscreen display to house the new MIB 3 infotainment system, which operates significantly faster than the previous version of the system. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation. For options, consider a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The 2019 Audi A5 Coupe earned the top score of Good in five crash tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the 2020 model has not yet been tested. Standard safety features include a reversing camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, Audi Pre-Sense Basic, which senses and prepares the car and its passengers for an imminent collision, and Audi Pre-Sense City, which includes pedestrian detection. Options include rear cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, a head-up display (HUD), active lane assist, and park assist. Whether potential buyers thought the A5 needed updates so soon into this generation, they’re here, and they make this sporty luxury car even more compelling than last year's version.
