Used 2021 Volkswagen Passat for Sale nearPhiladelphia, PA

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen Passat cost?

Prices have softened 8.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 498 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Passat a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Volkswagen Passat earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Volkswagen positions it as a simple, value-focused midsize sedan, and the cabin space and ride comfort support that mission. The tradeoff is that it leans on practicality rather than flash, so you should expect a straightforward car instead of a feature-rich one.

Cons: Uninspired styling and outdated technology are the biggest compromises, and the seats are also called out as uncomfortable.

If you want a roomy, comfort-first sedan with strong value, the Passat fits that use case well. 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Passat reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Volkswagen describes it as a well-executed midsize sedan that should make a good daily driver, and the expert review also notes that it is built for straightforward everyday use. The ownership picture is helped by the fact that Volkswagen includes free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about whether the car’s age and basic tech will still suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen Passat?

At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s comfort and tech shortcomings are acceptable for your daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: S models use cloth upholstery, while SE and R-Line models add V-Tex leatherette; R-Line also gets 19-inch wheels, adaptive front-lighting, sportier exterior styling, and a rear spoiler.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 Passat uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive; it makes 174 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive is no longer offered.
• Safety package: Adaptive cruise control is standard across all trim levels, and available features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: All models get a 6.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM; R-Line adds HD Radio, built-in navigation, and an eight-speaker Fender audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA-estimated fuel economy is 28 mpg combined, with 24 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Volkswagen Passat trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen Passat is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, and R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the most basic interior materials and equipment.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds V-Tex leatherette, keyless entry, and rear USB charge ports without jumping to the top-end price.
• R-Line: Choose this if you want the most equipment, including 19-inch wheels, adaptive front-lighting, built-in navigation, and the Fender premium audio system.

Adaptive cruise control is standard on every trim, so you do not need to move up the lineup just to get that safety feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent opportunities.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 498 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,165, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $14,564 sits slightly below last year's $15,895.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers than to future sellers. If you buy now, you may be entering at a relatively softer point in the pricing cycle.

For resale, the Passat’s value will likely depend on condition, mileage, and whether the car’s practical strengths still resonate with shoppers. A clean, well-kept example should hold up better than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Passat safe?

The 2021 Passat earns top “good” scores in all IIHS crash tests, but its standard headlights only earned a “marginal” rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen makes adaptive cruise control standard on all trim levels, and other available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams. Standard safety hardware also includes Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and Intelligent Crash Response System.

The main caveat is the headlight result, which is weaker than the rest of the crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard adaptive cruise control across the lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,120, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $14,564 average.
• It’s a roomy, value-focused sedan with a refresh rather than a redesign.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $16,228, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $14,564 average.
• It is the final Passat and emphasizes comfort, space, and everyday usability.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best balance if you want the updated standard safety equipment and current-market pricing. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value; if you want the newest version of the formula, the 2022 is the pricier alternative.
