Used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 for Sale nearDurham, NC

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 9.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 286 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its quiet cabin, smooth driving experience, and spacious interior, and they also respond well to its comfort and design. In the broader context of Volkswagen positioning this as a mainstream electric crossover, that makes it especially appealing if you want an approachable EV rather than something niche or overly specialized.

The main trade-offs are its unimpressive electric range and unintuitive technology, along with poor visibility. Even so, the market still shows 31.8% good or great deals, which means you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and selective.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in everyday use, with praise centered on smooth driving, comfort, and a quiet cabin that owners can count on. The expert review also emphasizes that Volkswagen built this as a familiar, mainstream-friendly EV rather than a complicated science project, which supports the sense that it’s meant to be easy to live with over time.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery and charging behavior still match expectations, especially if the car has seen frequent fast charging or cold-weather use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been used heavily for commuting or charging away from home. Focus on overall condition, charging performance, and whether the cabin tech and driver aids work as intended, since those are the areas that most affect day-to-day ownership.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base ID.4 Pro comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and cloth seats, while the Pro S and 1st Edition add leatherette upholstery. That means the lower trim is the one most likely to feel sparse if you want a more upscale cabin.
• Powertrain: At launch, the ID.4 used a single rear-mounted electric motor with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, and an all-wheel-drive version later added a second motor for more output. The rear-drive setup is described as balanced and smooth, while the AWD version adds power and traction without making the car sporty.
• Safety package: The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, and it is standard rather than reserved for a higher trim.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10-inch touchscreen, with a 12-inch screen optional, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a 5.3-inch display screen for the instrument cluster and over-the-air-style connected functionality through its voice and interface setup.
• Range & charging: The RWD ID.4 Pro S and 1st Edition have an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles, while the base RWD Pro reaches 260 miles. Standard DC fast charging can take the battery from 5% to 80% in 38 minutes, and the battery pack is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged, and look for signs of heavy DC fast-charging use versus mostly home charging. You also want to understand how much of the battery warranty remains, since that matters more than mileage alone.

Which 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 4 trim levels: Pro, Pro S, AWD Pro, AWD Pro S.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core ID.4 experience with the rear-drive setup, standard advanced safety tech, and the longer 260-mile range figure mentioned for the base RWD model. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Pro S: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel, because it adds leatherette upholstery while keeping the ID.4’s standard safety and tech strengths. It’s the trim to target if you want the nicer cabin without moving all the way up the range.
• AWD Pro: Choose this if you want the added traction and stronger output from the dual-motor setup, especially if you live where weather or road conditions matter. It gives up some range compared with the rear-drive version, so it’s more about capability than efficiency.
• AWD Pro S: This is the most fully equipped version in the lineup, combining the dual-motor setup with the nicer Pro S cabin treatment. It suits you if you want the most complete package and are willing to pay for it.

Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are standard safety features, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get them.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 286 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,883, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $18,760 sits slightly below last year's $20,657.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the ID.4’s value is being shaped by softer pricing and a fairly active used market, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it’s time to list it.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ designation and five-star ratings from NHTSA in its crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, and it is standard equipment rather than a paid upgrade.

One caveat is that NHTSA did not test the AWD ID.4, so the crash-test result cited here applies to the rear-drive version.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year is the ID.4’s first mainstream U.S. launch, so it represents Volkswagen’s early push to make an EV feel like a familiar family crossover.

The bottom line: If you want the earliest and most affordable entry into the ID.4 lineup, the 2021 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-condition example you can find rather than chasing a specific trim, since the market already shows meaningful discounting.
