Used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 for Sale nearCharlotte, NC

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 7.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 274 listings available, which gives you a modest pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its quiet cabin, smooth driving experience, spacious interior, performance, comfort, and design. In practical terms, that lines up with an EV that feels easy to live with and appealing if you want everyday comfort rather than a niche electric-car experience.

The trade-offs are that its electric range is unimpressive, its technology can be unintuitive, and visibility is poor. Volkswagen also positions it as a mainstream electric crossover for shoppers moving from familiar gasoline SUVs, so it makes the most sense if you want a normal-family-car feel in an EV package.

Good and great deals percentage: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for its smooth driving, quiet cabin, and spacious interior. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the car is doing the day-to-day basics well over time.

The expert review also emphasizes that Volkswagen built this as a mainstream EV with standard advanced safety features and a familiar driving experience. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery, charging behavior, and electronics have been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been used heavily for commuting or fast charging. Focus on overall condition, charging-port health, cabin electronics, and whether the car behaves normally in everyday driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Pro trim gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel and cloth seats, while the Pro S and 1st Edition add leatherette upholstery. The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the standard equipment list is especially important if you’re comparing lower trims.
• Powertrain: At launch, the ID.4 used a single rear-mounted electric motor with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, and an all-wheel-drive version later added a second motor up front. The rear-drive setup is described as balanced and smooth, while the AWD version adds power and traction.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, so you should confirm that the car you’re considering still has all of these features active and functioning.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10-inch touchscreen, with a 12-inch screen optional, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a 5.3-inch instrument display and over-the-air capability is not stated here, so you should verify software update support and usability during your test drive.
• Range & charging: The RWD Pro S and 1st Edition have an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles, with 97 MPGe combined. Standard DC fast charging can take the battery from 5% to 80% in 38 minutes, and the battery pack is 82 kWh. The base RWD Pro is listed at 260 miles of range, while AWD versions are listed at 240 miles or 249 miles depending on trim.
• Battery health: For a used EV, you should ask for battery state-of-health information, review charging habits, and look for signs of excessive DC fast charging or unusual range loss. It’s also smart to confirm how much of the battery warranty remains and whether the car has been mostly charged at home or relied on frequent fast charging.

Which 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 4 trim levels: Pro, Pro S, AWD Pro, AWD Pro S.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the ID.4’s core EV experience at the lowest starting price. It keeps the rear-drive setup and gets the same standard safety tech, so it makes sense if you care more about everyday usability than extra luxury touches.
• Pro S: This is the best-value trim if you want more comfort and a richer cabin, since it adds leatherette upholstery over the base Pro’s cloth seats. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest balance of equipment and price.
• AWD Pro: Choose this if you want the added traction and stronger output from the dual-motor setup. It suits you best if you expect to drive in tougher weather or simply want more power.
• AWD Pro S: This is the most fully equipped version in the lineup, combining the dual-motor setup with the upgraded cabin treatment. It’s the right pick if you want the most content and don’t mind paying more for it.

The standard safety package is a major strength across the lineup, and Travel Assist plus Emergency Assist are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

This looks like a buyer-friendly market, especially if you’re comparing listings carefully and moving quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 274 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $18,669 sits slightly below last year's $20,239.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you shop near the lower end of the range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later.

The market also appears reasonably active, which matters because resale value depends on buyer interest as much as condition. A used EV with broad appeal and strong equipment can hold attention better than one that feels too specialized.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering, and Emergency Assist can bring the car to a stop if it detects the driver is incapacitated.

One important caveat is that the NHTSA rating cited here applies to the rear-wheel-drive version, while the all-wheel-drive version was not tested in the same way. That makes it worth confirming the exact drivetrain and safety equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model stands out as Volkswagen’s first mainstream EV crossover, with standard advanced safety features and a nationwide launch strategy.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, inventory, and standard safety equipment, the 2021 is the smart starting point. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lower end of the market range and compare condition carefully, since the best deals can move quickly.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4:

• Pros: Quiet cabin, Fuel-efficient, Standard advanced safety features.
• Cons: Unimpressive electric range, Unintuitive technology, Poor visibility.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E:

• Pros: Stylish design, Fun to drive, Impressive electric range.
• Cons: Poor ergonomic design.

Our experts score the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 7.3/10 and the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 7.8/10. The ID.4 is the better pick if you value a quieter cabin, strong efficiency, and standard safety tech. The Mach-E looks more stylish, is more fun to drive, and offers more impressive electric range, but it also brings poorer ergonomics. If you want the more comfort-focused and practical choice, the ID.4 makes sense; if range and driving enjoyment matter more, the Mach-E has the edge.
