Used 2021 Toyota Tacoma for Sale nearFresno, CA

How much does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

With 4,634 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.88/5 user-rated truck with an expert score of 6.5/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, reliability, resale potential, durability, and the way it delivers a truck-like experience. The Tacoma also earns credit for its features and performance in off-road-oriented trims, which helps explain why it remains appealing to shoppers who want a proven pickup.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine feels underpowered, performance is sluggish, and handling is poor. For you, that means the Tacoma makes the most sense if you value rugged capability and long-term appeal more than refinement or quick acceleration.

With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to reliability, durability, and resale potential, and it also suggests this is a truck people feel they can count on over time. The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the Tacoma as having an excellent reputation for reliability and a proven truck feel.

Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of free factory-scheduled maintenance through ToyotaCare, which adds some early ownership value. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about reputation and more about whether a specific truck has been used hard or maintained consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the frame, body panels, suspension, and underbody for signs of hard use. It’s also smart to focus on how the truck drives, since ride quality and braking behavior are already part of the Tacoma’s character.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch screen. Higher trims add more equipment, and the TRD Pro stands out with model-specific off-road styling and hardware, while the Limited leans more toward comfort.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6. The V6 is available with a six-speed manual or automatic, and the Tacoma’s part-time 4WD setup includes low range and an available locking rear differential.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Some rivals offer more advanced features.
• Infotainment: The base SR gets a 7-inch touchscreen, and all other trims get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder returns 21 mpg combined in RWD form and 20 mpg combined with 4WD. The V6 returns 21 mpg combined with RWD and 20 mpg combined with 4WD, while the manual V6 drops to 18 mpg combined. The TRD Pro returns 18 mpg combined, and the expert test vehicle averaged 16.7 mpg.

Which 2021 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Sport, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Tacoma’s core toughness at the lowest price. You still get the standard tech and the truck’s basic capability, but it’s the least equipped choice.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road or luxury-focused models.
• TRD Off Road: Choose this if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware to be a bigger part of the package. It adds the locking rear differential, upgraded suspension with Bilstein shocks, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control.
• TRD Sport: This trim is for you if you want a more road-oriented flavor without moving all the way up the lineup.
• Limited: This is the comfort-leaning choice, and it’s the right fit if you care more about a more upscale feel than trail hardware.
• TRD Pro: This is the most off-road-focused Tacoma, with Fox internal-bypass shocks, a 1-inch front lift, retuned rear suspension, a front skid plate, wider wheels, and standard 4WD.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the Tacoma’s headlights vary by trim, with some versions rated better than others.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,634 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,963, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $32,251 sits slightly below last year's $32,545.

That small decline suggests the Tacoma’s market has stayed relatively stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you as a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern usually points to predictable demand and less risk of a sudden value drop.

The Tacoma’s strong reputation for durability and owner satisfaction should continue to support buyer interest. If you keep the truck in good condition and maintain it well, it should remain easier to resell than many rivals.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma earns Good IIHS crash-test results in most tests, with an Acceptable score in the passenger-side small overlap front test, and it earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That’s a solid safety suite for a truck, though some rivals offer more advanced driver aids.

One caveat to keep in mind is that headlight performance varies by trim, with some versions rated better than others.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds two new special editions and standard dual-zone automatic climate control on all V6 models.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,565, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,251 average.
• It keeps the Tacoma’s rugged, dependable character while adding useful updates.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,984, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,251 average.
• It remains a strong choice for commuting and weekend adventures.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current-market pricing, broad availability, and the 2021 updates, this is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money while preserving much of the same core appeal.
