CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,350 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,526, 34.5% of 2021 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Sienna 4.33 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
74.6% of 2021 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Sienna stands out because Toyota gave its minivan a major makeover for the year, adding new style and a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain that is standard equipment. It also marks the Sienna’s fourth generation of production, and the hybrid version is built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform. Those changes make it a notably different kind of Sienna than before, with a clear emphasis on efficiency and modernization.
In everyday use, the 2021 Toyota Sienna’s strengths are easy to understand: it is fuel-efficient, has a great ride quality, and is spacious. That combination makes it appealing for families and anyone who wants a comfortable, practical vehicle with plenty of room. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal, with praise for the roomy interior, excellent gas mileage, and smooth handling, especially for road trips.
There are tradeoffs, though. The test-drive data points to uninspired styling and a stereo that is lacking, while owner comments also mention concerns about acceleration, interior material quality, and some missing convenience and connectivity features. Even so, the 2021 Toyota Sienna’s distinctive mix of hybrid efficiency, space, and comfort gives it a strong identity in the minivan segment.

HUD, Gas mileage, Radar cruise with lane trace assist etc. makes it a great vehicle for long road trips. Wish the BSM indicators appear on the HUD and have more options displayed on the HUD as well. Also the Android Auto\Apple Car Play navigation is not projected into HUD. Wish that was included as well.

| Year-Round Low | $32,942 |
| Year-Round High | $35,926 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $35,874 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.33% |

There are 1,307 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.33/5 from owners and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the roomy interior, excellent gas mileage, and smooth handling, and many also like the AWD and hybrid combination for road trips. In everyday use, that lines up with the Sienna’s family-first mission: it is built to be spacious, comfortable, and efficient rather than flashy.
The trade-offs are worth noting, though. Expert feedback calls out uninspired styling and a stereo that is lacking, while owner comments also mention acceleration and interior-material concerns, plus some missing convenience and connectivity features.
With its emphasis on hybrid efficiency, space, and comfort, it makes the most sense if you want a practical minivan for family duty and long drives. 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers repeatedly describe it as dependable for family use, with praise for the hybrid setup, roomy cabin, and road-trip-friendly comfort. The owner feedback also points to a vehicle people feel good about keeping for the long haul, especially when efficiency and everyday usability matter most.
The expert evaluation adds that the engine, motor, and battery combination is a proven one, and the hybrid system is described as very similar to the setup in the current Highlander Hybrid. Toyota also backs the hybrid with an eight-year/100,000-mile hybrid-related component warranty.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core hybrid hardware and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and condition you want.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?
At 74.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, interior condition, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for family duty, it is especially smart to check wear in the second and third rows, along with the condition of convenience features you plan to use regularly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE uses 17-inch wheels, while XLE and XSE add more upscale equipment and Limited and Platinum move to 18-inch or 20-inch wheels depending on drivetrain. Base-trim equipment is more modest, so compare comfort and tech features carefully if you want a better-equipped cabin.
- Powertrain: A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors produce 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels, and the CVT is tuned more for smooth efficiency than quick throttle response.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, lane-departure alert, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The Star Safety System, 10 airbags, LATCH connectors, rear-seat reminder, TPMS, and an inflator kit are also standard.
- Infotainment: A nine-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, one USB media port, and six USB charging ports. Wireless charging is limited to higher trims, and the rear-seat entertainment system is available starting on XLE.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35/36/35 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core hybrid powertrain, standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a nine-inch touchscreen, and the efficiency that defines the model. It is the best-value trim if you want the Sienna’s main strengths without paying for extras.
- XLE: This is the trim to target if you want a more family-friendly balance of comfort and convenience. It adds more available tech and comfort features, including access to the rear-seat entertainment system and the 1500-watt inverter option.
- XSE: This trim leans into a sportier appearance and brings larger wheel options, while still keeping the Sienna’s practical hybrid foundation. It is a good fit if you want a more distinctive look without jumping to the top of the range.
- Limited: This is where the Sienna starts to feel notably more upscale, with 18-inch wheels, a larger driver display, and access to premium audio and a digital rearview mirror. It suits you if cabin tech and a more premium feel matter.
- Platinum: This is the most feature-rich version, with 20-inch wheel options, a 10-inch head-up display, and the most advanced tech presentation in the lineup. Choose it if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and the Star Safety System are standard across all trim levels.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,307 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,942, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $34,681 sits slightly below last year's $35,874.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell later. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, because the current market already reflects some downward pressure.
The Sienna’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when it is time to resell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2021 Toyota Sienna has not yet received released crash-test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, lane-departure alert, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The Star Safety System is also standard, along with 10 airbags, LATCH connectors, a rear-seat reminder system, TPMS, and an inflator kit.
A spare tire is still available, and Toyota moved its location for better roadside convenience. For families, the standard rear-seat reminder and broad driver-assistance suite are especially useful.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Toyota’s 2021 redesign brings a standard hybrid powertrain and a major modernization of the Sienna.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $26,402, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $34,681 average.
- It offers all-wheel drive and strong family practicality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $36,661, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,681 average.
- It adds the Woodland trim for a more adventurous look.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Sienna with standard hybrid efficiency, the 2021 is the right target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense only if you specifically want the newer trim choice and are comfortable paying more.
