CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 108 currently listed for sale near Mobile, AL and an average price of $26,823.00, 72.2% of 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as the more powerful and efficient choice in the RAV4 lineup, unless you specifically want the rugged Adventure or TRD Off-Road versions. It also comes with standard all-wheel drive, which adds to its appeal as a compact crossover SUV that aims to balance everyday usability with stronger efficiency. Its styling is another plus, giving it a look that many buyers will find attractive.
Toyota offers the 2021 RAV4 Hybrid in LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited trim levels, with pricing running from $28,650 to $37,180 before the $1,175 destination charge. The XLE Premium trim is new for the 2021 model year and adds a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control. That makes the lineup feel broad enough to suit different budgets and preferences, while still giving shoppers a clear step up in features as they move higher.
The main tradeoff is that the stereo is lacking, which may matter to buyers who care about audio quality. Even so, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s strong fuel efficiency and generally well-liked package make it easy to understand why it appeals to so many drivers.

This is the best car I have ever owned, hands down. In addition to the wealth of features that make my long commute easier, the gas mileage cannot be beat. I fill up once a week. It is smooth and comfortable. I love the adaptive cruise control and the steer assist. I live in an area that gets a lot of snow and I trust its ability to get me safely to where I’m going in any weather. It self corrected last winter when the roads were icy. This was on a bridge and other cars were fishtailing all over, but my RAV corrected itself, drove straight, and I swear it saved me from an accident. Also, the pick up when getting on the highway is superb. It is comfortable and at 103,000 miles mine is still going strong. It’s been off road, in the mountains, all over the streets of NYC, and is my daily commuting car. Right now with its current high mileage I’d drive my RAV4 Hybrid to Alaska and back and wouldn’t worry at all about it. It runs just as well as the day I drove it off the lot with 11 miles on the odometer. I keep my cars a long time and I fully expect it to get to 300,000 miles. Take care of the maintenance and you won’t go wrong with a RAV 4 Hybrid.

This car (in the color lunar rock) is beautiful and sporty, comfortably roomy, gets great gas mileage, and has amazing safety features. I was in a rollover in my first Rav4, and came out with barely a scratch. Already a repeat customer of the Rav4 Hybrid XLE. It literally saved my life.

I compared the RAV4 hybrid to every model in its class. I bought the limited because of its features. The base hybrid models felt cheap compared to the nicer appointed models which coupled with the strong gas mileage made it a no brainer. I am extremely happy with choice. Do yourself a favor and shop around for a good deal.

Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.82/5 user-rated vehicle, and experts give it an 8.5/10 overall score. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers repeatedly praise its excellent gas mileage, spacious interior, and strong performance in a variety of conditions. The review summary also points to a well-liked package with plenty of features in higher trims, along with reliability and safety as recurring positives.
The main trade-off is that the stereo is lacking, and the expert notes also call out some interior quality inconsistency and a few fit-and-finish annoyances. For you, that means the RAV4 Hybrid makes the most sense if you want a practical compact crossover with strong efficiency and everyday versatility rather than a luxury-grade cabin or standout audio system.
Good and great deals account for 30.4% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback points to reliability, trouble-free ownership, and a vehicle you can count on over the long term, while the expert notes reinforce its reputation for dependable everyday use.
The cost-effectiveness notes also mention two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. Combined with the hybrid system’s strong efficiency and the model’s reputation for durability, that gives you a reassuring starting point for used-car ownership.
For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is less about the basic hybrid concept and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance and no hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, tire wear, brake feel, and any signs of rattles or trim issues. Since the review notes mention some interior quality inconsistency, pay close attention to fit, finish, and any noises during the test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from LE to Limited, and the lower trims miss some of the nicer convenience and safety content you get as you move up. The XLE Premium adds a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a more upscale wheel finish, while the Limited is the most fully equipped.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with front and rear electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack, with standard AWD coming from the rear electric motor. The system makes 219 horsepower, and the hybrid setup is tuned for strong efficiency and everyday drivability.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are not on the Hybrid LE, and rear automatic braking is exclusive to the Hybrid Limited.
- Infotainment: You can get either a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, and both support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM. Toyota also includes connected services, and the top system adds an 11-speaker JBL audio setup, dynamic navigation, and voice recognition with updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is said to deliver 40 mpg in combined driving, and the cost-effectiveness notes say it can save you about $340 annually versus a standard AWD version.
Which 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core hybrid efficiency and standard AWD that define the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, though you give up some of the nicer convenience and safety content found higher up.
- XLE: This is the trim that starts to feel more balanced for most shoppers, since it adds more everyday comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to the top. If you want the best value, this is the trim to focus on first.
- XLE Premium: This is the most obvious step-up trim, adding a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It’s the one to target if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the Limited.
- XSE: This trim is the sportier choice, with a sport-tuned suspension for a firmer feel. It suits you best if you want a more responsive setup and don’t mind the same tire limitations noted in testing.
- Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one used in the expert test vehicle. It’s the best fit if you want the richest feature set and the most complete safety content, including rear automatic braking.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the Hybrid LE, while rear automatic braking is exclusive to the Hybrid Limited.

- Inventory: There are 2,346 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.13% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,741.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $29,130 sits slightly above last year's $28,805.
That modest increase suggests the market has remained steady rather than softening, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. A vehicle that holds close to its prior-year value usually has enough demand to support a reasonable resale position, especially when inventory is still moving at a measured pace.
For you, that means the RAV4 Hybrid looks like a model that should remain relatively easy to price competitively when it’s time to move on. Strong efficiency, broad appeal, and steady shopper interest all help support future value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
It earns an overall rating of five stars from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it top marks in all assessments except headlights. It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the Hybrid LE, and rear automatic braking is exclusive to the Hybrid Limited.
The main caveat is the headlight result: only the adaptive front headlights on the Hybrid Limited get the top IIHS review. You should also know that the lane-centering and adaptive cruise behavior can feel a bit intrusive or inconsistent in heavier traffic.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.13% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 adds the new XLE Premium trim and keeps the lineup broad while preserving strong efficiency and standard AWD.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,443, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $29,130 average.
- It offers standard all-wheel drive, a roomy passenger compartment, and excellent fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall package and are comfortable paying a bit more, the 2021 is the better target because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and a broad trim range. If your priority is simply getting into a RAV4 Hybrid for less money, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
