Used 2021 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearNiles, OH

How much does the 2021 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 187 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 6.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, and safety attributes, and many also like the spacious interior and comfortable seating. The TRD version gets repeated positive attention for stronger performance, while the cabin’s roomy, upscale feel fits buyers who want a comfortable sedan with a more premium character than a mainstream midsize car.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is described as underwhelming, all-wheel drive is limited to the I-4 engine, and the technology is outdated. That makes the Avalon most appealing if you value comfort and space more than cutting-edge tech or broad powertrain choice.

With 42.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still enough market activity to find a competitive example.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that feels luxurious, smooth, and safe, and those themes usually align with a dependable ownership experience when a model earns strong satisfaction from drivers. The same feedback also highlights comfort and strong performance, especially in the TRD version, which suggests the car delivers consistently on its core mission.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes predictable handling, comfortable ride quality, and strong powertrain isolation, all of which support a composed, confidence-inspiring driving experience over time. Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles of driving, which can help reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s age, feature set, and powertrain choice still match your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the market includes a meaningful number of cars with incident history, condition matters as much as mileage and price. It also makes sense to focus on how well the cabin, electronics, and driver-assistance features work in real use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XLE and Limited are the comfort-focused choices, while the XSE Nightshade, XSE Hybrid, Touring, and TRD are the sport- and performance-tuned variants. The base-trim headlight performance is a notable gap because it affects safety-award eligibility.
• Powertrain: You can get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with AWD, a standard 301-hp 3.5-liter V6, or a 215-hp hybrid. The four-cylinder is the least exciting choice, while the V6 and hybrid better match the Avalon’s upscale mission.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-P includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while the optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.
• Infotainment: Every Avalon has a 9-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Toyota connected services. The upgraded system adds dynamic navigation and voice recognition with over-the-air updates, plus a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD four-cylinder test car returned 28 mpg in combined driving, and the hybrid is rated at up to 44 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE Nightshade, XSE Hybrid, Touring, and TRD.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the comfort-oriented starting point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Avalon’s roomy cabin and upscale feel without chasing sportier styling. It also pairs with the available AWD setup, which is limited to non-hybrid XLE and Limited versions.
• XSE Nightshade: This trim adds the blacked-out mesh grille and a more aggressive look, making it the pick if style matters more than pure comfort. It is one of the sport-leaning versions called out in the design coverage.
• XSE Hybrid: This is the efficiency-focused choice among the explicitly named trims, and it keeps the Avalon’s upscale character while adding hybrid powertrain appeal.
• Touring: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a sportier feel and appearance than the comfort-first models. It sits in the performance-tuned group and is a better fit if you want a more expressive Avalon.
• TRD: This is the enthusiast pick, and the expert coverage specifically calls out its extra performance and style. If you want the Avalon with the strongest personality, this is the one to target.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard across the lineup, but the lower-trim headlight performance keeps the car from earning a Top Safety Pick award.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 42.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 187 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,547, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Avalon's resale value?

The current average of $28,044 sits slightly above last year's $27,822.

That small increase suggests the Avalon has held its value fairly well in the near term, even as the large-sedan segment continues to shrink. For a future seller, that kind of stability can help reduce the risk of a sharp drop if you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition.

The market also appears reasonably balanced, which can support resale if your car is clean, well maintained, and equipped with desirable features. Strong demand tends to follow models that still have a clear identity, and the Avalon’s comfort-focused appeal helps it stand out.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2021 Toyota Avalon earns an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Due to poor headlight performance with lower trim levels, the Avalon is ineligible for a “Top Safety Pick” award.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard, and it includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, and the optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.

The main safety caveat is the lower-trim headlight performance, so you should pay close attention to lighting equipment if you are comparing trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 42.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds AWD availability and updated tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,931, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $28,044 average.
• It brings a revitalized TNGA-platform feel and a strong flagship identity.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates, AWD availability, and a stable pricing environment, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you still want the Avalon’s roomy, flagship-style character, the 2020 is the smarter value play.
