Used 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata for Sale nearWashington, DC

How much does the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 222 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 5.83/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its exceptional driving experience, stylish design, strong performance, and quality build. For you, that means the Miata fits best if you want an engaging weekend car or a budget-friendly third-garage-stall option rather than a practical daily hauler. The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and noticeable wind noise, and the expert review also points to outdated technology.

Only 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards shoppers who move quickly on the right car.

Is the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with attention to detail and quality build coming through in the ownership experience. The expert review also reinforces that sense of consistency by describing the Miata as a carryover model with few changes, which usually helps you know what to expect from the platform. Mazda’s warranty coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers.

For you, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about living with the Miata’s small-car compromises over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title does not replace a proper inspection. Prioritize condition over mileage alone, especially if you plan to use the car as a weekend toy or a second vehicle. Pay close attention to wear items that matter on a small sports car, including the cabin, top, and any signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Mazda sells the Miata in three trim levels: MX-5 Sport, MX-5 Club, and MX-5 Grand Touring. The base model gets cloth upholstery, while higher grades add a more premium interior and available white Nappa leather seats. The Club and Grand Touring are also offered with an available retractable fastback configuration, which is a meaningful feature gap if you want the hardtop experience.
• Powertrain: Every Miata uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard, and a six-speed automatic is available. The manual is the enthusiast choice, while the automatic gives you slightly better highway efficiency.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes low-speed braking support, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an engine immobilizer. Available upgrades add automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition technology, and an anti-theft alarm.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch touchscreen, USB port, Bluetooth, HD Radio, AUX jack, and a six-speaker sound system. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, two USB ports, and a Bose nine-speaker audio system are available, but Mazda Connect is not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual transmission is EPA-estimated at 26 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. The automatic improves combined fuel economy to 30 mpg.

Which 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: MX-5 Sport, MX-5 Club, and MX-5 Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• MX-5 Sport: This is the entry point if you want the Miata experience at the lowest starting price. It gives you the core rear-wheel-drive roadster formula, the standard manual transmission, and the basic tech and safety equipment, but it leaves out the more premium comfort and convenience touches found higher up.
• MX-5 Club: This is the best-value trim if you want the most enthusiast-focused setup. It adds the sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks, limited-slip differential, and front shock tower brace, which makes it the most compelling choice for drivers who care most about handling.
• MX-5 Grand Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and convenience. It brings the more premium interior treatment and adds more of the available upscale features, making it the better pick if you want your Miata to feel less bare-bones.

The Club and Grand Touring trims can also be had with the retractable fastback configuration, which is worth considering if you want the hardtop look and feel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and be ready to act when you find the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 222 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,914, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $25,543 sits slightly below last year's $25,715.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend can make it easier to estimate your future trade-in or private-party value because the model is not swinging sharply up or down. For a niche sports car like this, consistency can be a positive sign for long-term demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

The 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes with a good list of standard safety features, including low-speed braking support, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an engine immobilizer.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite gives you a solid baseline for a small sports car, and you can add automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition technology, and an anti-theft alarm. The main caveat is that neither NHTSA nor IIHS has rated the Miata for crashworthiness, so you do not get the reassurance of published crash-test results.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It carries over the Miata’s engaging rear-wheel-drive formula with few changes.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,713, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $25,543 average.
• It adds Kinematic Posture Control for more composed cornering.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it delivers the core Miata experience at a lower average price. If you are willing to spend more for the newer model’s added chassis tuning, the 2022 is the better alternative.
